The fun conversation started off with host Korina Sanchez-Roxas asking her regarding her sudden disappearance in the 2017 fantasy-action series Bagani that she top-billed alongside Liza Soberano, Enrique Gil, Matteo Guidicelli, and Makisig Morales.
“Nagpaalam naman po ako. Pero no’ng time na ‘yon, hindi pa po kasi ako buntis no’n. Siguro dahil meant lang talaga. After po no’n, pahinga,” Sofia disclosed.
After having a brief yet endearing sweet exchange about their respective babies, the two proud moms then went on to talk about Sofia’s pregnancy journey, beginning with the reactions of the people about her delighting revelation.
“Hindi naman po sila actually na-disappoint. Actually, ‘yong naramdaman po nila is parang kahit ginive up ko po ‘yong career ko over Zoe, worth it naman daw po. Kumbaga, hindi naman po talaga priority no’ng time na ‘yong ang career and all of that,” she said.
According to her, she and Daniel decided to keep it to themselves in order to keep their privacy and to avoid the possible stress that other people’s comments could inflict to her as they went through that particular phase in their lives.
“No’ng time po kasi na ‘yon, ‘di pa kami ready e. So ngayon, ngayon po ‘yong time na magandang timing para i-announce siya and to tell everybody na, ‘Hi, I’m a mom and I have a cute daughter. And I have a very happy family’,” she related.
Then she added, “Kasi mahirap na e. Mahirap po kasi ‘pag medyo stressed. E ako pa naman po, medyo sensitive. So no’ng time na ‘yon, no’ng we were in Australia, sobrang carefree namin. Wala kaming iniintindi. Kumbaga, focused lang sa family and do’n sa journey ng pregnancy ko.”
With regards to her initial reaction upon finding out that she’s going to be mom, the 21-year-old actress confessed that although the thought made her anxious about her career, she didn’t cry at all but more of excited on meeting their cute ‘blessing’.
“Honestly, Tita, hindi ako naiyak e. Kumbaga parang more on na-excite ako. Pero nagtanong din ‘yong sarili ko na ‘Paano na ‘yong trabaho ko? Paano na ‘yong kinabukasan ko?’ But when I realized na I can do all that with her kasi siya ‘yong inspiration ko, bakit naman ako ‘di na ulit makakapagtrabaho dahil lang do’n? Siyempre blessing ‘yon. Iba po kasi ‘yong naisip ko after that e – na mas masaya ako na dumating siya,” Sofia said.
She then went on to recall the moment she told her parents about it, which, according to her, was priceless for her since they didn’t reprimand her, but immediately accepted it instead. It also took her a week before finally notifying her 23-year-old boyfriend that she’s already carrying their firstborn. She assumed that Daniel would grow indifferent or hesitant, but he went emotional instead and even supported and accompanied her throughout her journey. They decided to stay in Australia, where he’s finishing his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and in order to stay away from the public eye as well.
When asked regarding her next plans, the actress expressed her fervent interest to go back to work and school as she yearns to take up a degree in Interior Design.
“Unang-una po sa sarili ko, gusto ko pong magtrabaho. Maganda po kasi ‘yong may sarili po akong ipon. And also by that, masusuportahan ko rin po ‘yong family ko aside from Daniel. Gusto ko po kami na magtulungan. As a family, gusto ko po, siyempre dream ng bawat ina na buo ‘yong family, masaya.
“And, Tita, gusto kong mag-ipon muna para I could go back to school kasi iba kapag tapos ng college, ‘di ba?” she shared.
Regarding her dream for their beautiful bundle of joy, Sofia told the veteran broadcast journalist that she simple wishes Zoe to be happy with her choices in the future.
“Dream ko lang, Tita, is ‘yong maging masaya siya kung ano ‘yong pipiliin niya sa buhay niya. Basta nandito lang kami igu-guide siya kasi ayoko rin namang magsabi ng kung anong gusto ko, kung ayaw naman niya. I’m excited for her,” she enthusiastically said.
