From enthralling and stirring us with her on-screen performances throughout her formidable journey in the local entertainment scene, actress-host Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo has been moving us with the inspiring stories of our kababayans from various walks of life featured in each episode of the weekly Kapamilya Channel program Paano Kita Mapasasalamatan?.
And in her appearance on the news and current affairs show Rated K, the Kapamilya Drama Queen related how delighted and amazed she was when it was pitched to her months ago.
“The show is more about to inspire people to be kind, to be giving and not asking anything in return, and, at the same, ang pinaka nagustuhan ko sa kanya when they presented it to me, it’s not the stories of celebrities. It’s the story of real people na dumadaan talaga sa totoong pagsubok ng buhay,” she imparted.
Then she added, “Ang pinaka nakaka-amaze kasi sa kanya is at some point you find a chain na linked into people kung ano po ‘yong common denominator ng kindness na nararanasan nila along the way. And I think, it’s very timely na magpasalamat tayo sa mga taong dapat nating pasalamatan. Ito ‘yong bagay na maibibigay mo nang libre at hindi siya mahirap gawin – ang pagpapasalamat.”
When it comes to her relationship with her husband Ryan Agoncillo, she admitted that just like other couples, they also have their own share of disagreements and misunderstandings, especially now that they have to spend most of their time together at home because of the pandemic.
In fact, just on the first week, she recalled having anxiety and getting too stressed with everything that’s happening. She made herself busy by preparing food packs for the frontliners, creating face shields, and other things all at the same time.
“Na-neglect ko ‘yong thought to communicate to Ryan, hanggang sa siya na ‘yong nag-upo sa akin, kinausap niya ako na, ‘Ano’ng nangyayari sa’yo? Sabihin mo sa’kin para matulungan kita’. Kasi, ang napansin pala niya, ‘pag dumarating siya, umaalis ako ng kwarto. Parang we’re not on the same space.
Being a restaurant owner, the 42-year-old award-winning actress revealed that they are terribly affected by the pandemic as they, too, had to limit their operations and layoff a few of their crew.
“Mahirap din. Of course, apart sa you needed to give jobs to all our employees, iniisip namin ‘yong members namin na hangga’t maaari, ayaw talaga naming magbawas kasi, as it is, ang hirap na ng buhay e. So ayaw talaga namin na madagdagan pa ng tao na mag-iisip kung paano na ‘yong kinakabukasan nila. But, of course, when reality steps in, you have to think a lot of things,” she shared.
Then she continued, “I’m happy that we still get to keep most of our employees or cast members, but it’s hard to keep up with the times now. Ang hirap ng naging proposition ng nasa food industry, pero positive kami in a way na, because food is a basic necessity.”
Since her new show Paano Kita Mapasasalamatan? aims to highlight the value of gratitude and appreciating the kindness of other people toward us, the veteran broadcast journalist asked her about the things she’s thankful for.
“I guess, aside from my family and the people who supported me since no’ng bata ako, my faith. Lagi kong sinasabi, hindi naman ako Christian. ‘Yong dasal o komunikasyon ko sa Diyos, naniniwala ako na may sarili akong relationship with the Lord.
“I’m thankful for the people around me, the people I work with, the management team, our whole staff, and my staff here in Paano Kita Mapasasalamatan?. Of course, that’s apart from the family I have now. Malaking factor kasi ‘yong mga taong nakapaligid sa’yo, positive e – positive ‘yong outlook sa buhay, na hangga’t maaari yong maliliit na bagay tinatawanan nalang namin. And we really try to make things happen, like ‘yong simpleng pagtulong, ‘yong simpleng pag-communicate sa tao. We try to be productive, we try to keep ourselves busy.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila kasi if it weren’t for them, iba ‘yong path ng buhay ko ngayon, iba ‘yong takbo ng karera ko kasi I could think properly with them kasi madalas kaming tumatawa. So, ‘pag mas masaya kasi ako, mas nakakapag-isip ako nang maayos at saka alam din nila ‘yong mga mood swings ko, so alam nila kung kalian lang ako kakausapin para mag-decide,” Judy Ann explicitly stated.
Then she concluded, “So, it really goes a long way when you are with good people, when you are surrounded by positive people around you. I get to think a lot without any judgment kasi may respeto kami sa isa’t isa. And with that, we get to inspire a lot of people kasi nai-inspire sila na ‘yong team namin, tawa lang nang tawa pero productive kami.”
