Last Sunday, August 16, we woke up to the appalling and heart-breaking news that famed video creator and actor Emman Nimedez had already succumbed to acute myeloid leukemia, four months after he shared the diagnosis to his followers through an emotional video he posted on his YouTube channel.
As his family, girlfriend, friends, colleagues, and fans mourn his death, let’s take a look back on how he rose as a content creator through his interview with Rated K in May 2017.
With the continuous, growing popularity of Korean dramas during that time, the promising and talented young man saw it as an opportunity not just to showcase his skills in acting and creating videos, but to also spread good vibes to everyone by making a parody of the well-loved series Goblin.
The 18-year-old broadcast communication student then became an instant celebrity as the Goblin parody he uploaded online had raked in more than three million views when he was featured on the news and current affairs program.
According to him, he’s been fond of shooting and editing videos ever since he was still a kid. “Nag-start ako no’ng 2010. Ako pa lang ‘yong nanonood sarili kong videos. ‘Pag nag-shoot ako, gamit ko ‘yong phone. Do’n ko na nahanap ‘yong passion ko,” Emman recounted.
His ever-supportive Daddy Louie recalled how he used to berate his unico hijo, who he raised singlehandedly after he parted ways with his ex-wife when Emman was only four years old, as he spent most of his time in front of the computer just to accomplish his passion projects.
Just when we thought that acting was only the role he played in every video that he uploaded, he was actually the one who’s also in-charge of the directing, shooting, and editing – guiding his production crew on how he would want every scene to be captured.
Aside from easing the sadness that he felt and using this as a way of expressing himself, creating videos had also given him the opportunity to help his family in their finances as he used the extra income he earned in paying for his tuition fees and school requirements, as well as their utility bills at home.
Besides, it was also through this passion that he had found the love of his life – his fan-turned-girlfriend Peachy Santos who confessed having a huge crush on Emman ever since watching his videos for the first time in 2012.
They finally met four years after, when he went to their school for a seminar, which she made sure to attend in order to see him. Peachy reminisced how kilig she was that Emman approached and talked to her, and even made that “hokage move” by asking for her cellphone number. They became a couple after a month.
It was Peachy who inspired him to do a parody after she encouraged him to watch Korean drama. But, unbeknownst to her, that sparked an idea to him to come up with a video inspired by it.
Prior to that Rated K interview, Emman appeared on the weekly teen sitcom Luv U as one of its supporting cast members and on the 2019 indie film “Tayo Sa Huling Buwan ng Taon. “
Thank you for that laughter, good vibes, and inspiration you had brought to the world Emman! Rest in peace.
