Since we’re celebrating International Women’s Month, our “Woman of the Day” in this video is none other than the “Prime Superstar,” Judy Ann Santos.
She began her career at seven years old, appearing in several TV shows and films. After years of portraying supporting roles, she became a household name with her breakthrough lead role in Mara Clara as Mara, and the title role in Esperanza.
Star Cinema then adapted Mara Clara to the big screen, which also starred Judy Ann, and she won a FAMAS Award for Best New Movie Actress for the role.
Judy Ann reached the peak of her success in the showbiz industry with her impeccable performances in these teleseryes, TV shows, and film. She also continued working with the biggest names in showbiz including The King of Philippine Movies, the late Fernando Poe Jr. Judy Ann and Da King worked together in the 1999 action-comedy film “Isusumbong Kita Sa Tatay Ko,” which is the first Filipino-produced film to gross more than 100 million pesos in the box office.
Later in Judy Ann’s career, her movies and shows raked in awards even more - from “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” to its sequel “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo,” where she won Best Actress Awards from the Metro Manila Film Festival, FAMAS, and the PMP Star Awards. Other acclaimed roles of the multi talented actress include “Kusina,” “Ploning,” “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes,” and last year’s award-winning film “Mindanao” which received several recognitions. Judy Ann bagged Best Actress trophies at the 41st Cairo International Film Festival and the Metro Manila Film Festival last year for brilliantly portraying the Muslim mother Saima.
Judy Ann is also recognized for her remarkable teleseryes through the years, including Sa Puso Ko Iingatan Ka, Basta’t Kasama Kita, Krystala, Sa Piling Mo, Ysabella, George and Cecil, Habang May Buhay, Your Song Presents: Gimik 2010, and Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala. She also appeared in guest roles for the ensemble series May Bukas Pa, 100 Days to Heaven and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. Her most recent teleserye was Starla, playing the main character Atty. Teresa "Tere" Dichaves. Not only has Juday been known as a very good actress, but also as a very good host. She hosted the reality program Junior Masterchef Pinoy Edition and MasterChef Pinoy Edition and two seasons of the kiddie game show Bet on Your Baby.
Aside from being a multi-awarded actress, what makes Judy Ann empowered is that she is a successful restaurateur and most importantly, a loving wife and mother. She sees to it she balances her time among her priorities including her family which is the most important, proving that she lives both her professional and personal life well. As a mom, she makes sure she gives her undivided attention to her beloved kids Yohan, Lucho, and Luna, and husband Ryan Agoncillo.
At the age of 41, Judy Ann is more than familiar with the things millenials do as she also spends time vlogging. She has a YouTube channel “Judy Ann’s Kitchen,” posting very entertaining videos of her cooking savory dishes.
