Did you know that Roxanne Barcelo went to an all-girls high school and college? At the time, she received love letters and chocolates from the other girls, but nothing ever became official. Now, she got to use this personal experience to prepare for her role in iWant’s latest original series, “Fluid” —a story about the LGBTQ+ community and finding acceptance within the family.
Admittedly, the actress was initially hesitant to take on the project since there are same-sex kissing scenes. Considering that the Philippines is more of a conservative country, she was worried about whether the audience was ready for a series like “Fluid.” In the end, what made her agree was her desire to share stories. “I realized, you’ll never be ready. You just have to do roles that you feel are worth your energy and time,” she said. Not only that, she sees this as an opportunity to do her part in showing support for the LGBTQ+ community.
One of the challenges that the Kapamilya star encountered throughout their shoots was being more “mahinhin”. Roxanne has a big laugh, among other not so modest habits. This was a problem since director Benedict Mique had very precise visions. “I haven’t met a director as specific as him,” she stated. While she did her own research by talking to friends and remembering her nine years in an all-girls school, it was still important to listen to the directors and writers. Despite being a technical process, she still had lots of fun.
