Bantay Edukasyon is a successful initiative of Bantay Bata 163 to bring disadvantaged children under its care back to school. Proceeds from the upcoming ABS-CBN Ball 2019 will be used to sustain Bantay Edukasyon, which was launched in 1998 to give educational assistance to kids that Bantay Bata has fostered over the years.
Bantay Edukasyon has given scholarships to over 6,000 children while over 1,000 have already graduated from different levels. In this TV Patrol report, Jhoana Colecha, a social worker, said Bantay Edukasyon is not only about giving financial assistance to the needy but also aims to educate the children on their rights.
One of the program’s scholars is 19-year-old Maria Erica Zamora who has been a scholar for 13 years and currently in her second year of college taking up Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. “Mayroon pong taong handang tumulong po sa akin para po matupad po ‘yung mga pangarap ko,” Zamora expressed her gratefulness for the people who have helped her achieve her dreams over the years.
Another Bantay Edukasyon scholar mentioned in the report is “Joshua,” a 13-year old boy rescued by barangay officials in Quezon City. He was first taken to the Quezon City Social Service Department and is now scheduled to be moved to Bantay Bata 163 Children’s Village in Norzagaray, Bulacan to continue his studies. Josh said the educational assistance is a great help for him to give back to his family.
