There truly is no one like him.
John Lloyd Cruz is the type of actor that only comes once in a generation. Despite flying under the radar since last year, his name is still followed by praises from both fans and fellow artists in the industry.
He has been paired with some of the biggest leading ladies in the industry, but many would agree that one of his best tandems is with Sarah Geronimo. If their on-point chemistry won’t convince you that they were meant to be, then maybe the box office movies will. 2008’s “A Very Special Love” kicked off their love team. This was then followed by “You Changed My Life” in 2009 before concluding in 2013 with “It Takes A Man and A Woman.” Their most recent reunion was last year, for “Finally Found Someone.”
John has certainly proven his capabilities in the rom-com genre, but it’s in his more daring roles where fans witnessed his talent at its finest.
Back in 2009, he played the love interest of Luis Manzano for “In My Life.” It wasn’t just their convincing performances, however, that made viewers watch in awe of their love story. John’s scenes with the Star for All Season Vilma Santos also stole the spotlight in a number of scenes that left everyone speechless.
Another powerful role of the actor was 2014’s “The Trial” where he portrayed the life of a mentally challenged man who was accused of raping his teacher. Coupled with John’s acting, the narrative was heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.
Last but not the least, who could forget Popoy and Basha. John and Bea Alonzo’s “One More Chance” from 2007 is not only one of their most memorable characters, but the movie itself is one of the country’s most iconic romance stories. “She loved me at my worst, you had me at my best,” is a line that many still relate to until today.
With an indefinite hiatus, we are kept waiting in the dark and left unsure when John Lloyd’s next project would come. Fortunately, we can always revisit these movies and more to ease the trouble of missing him.
