Those who have witnessed her stellar journey in the local entertainment scene in the past years have probably foreseen how she would become one of the most celebrated seasoned actresses of the country. From the very first time we saw her in the soap opera Hiram in 2004 and how she honed her talents as one of the pioneers of the long-running kiddie gag show Goin’ Bulilit, we already knew that a bright future awaits the adorable and promising child star who was once credited through her real name “Mara Schnittka”.
And we were not wrong after all as Julia Montes indeed turned to be one of the most bankable leading ladies and most versatile actresses of her generation, not only in teleseryes, but also in the movies. In her almost two decades in show business, she appeared in 12 films, in which nine of those were under Star Cinema. Let’s take a trip down memory lane by reminiscing her remarkable dramatic scenes in the Star Cinema flicks she starred in – “Wayback Home” (2011), “The Reunion” (2012), “A Moment In Time” (2013), and “Halik sa Hangin” (2015).
A year after the successful remake of the classic series Mara Clara in 2010, she once again worked with her co-star and fellow Goin’ Bulilit alumna Kathyrn Bernardo in the family drama movie “Wayback Home,” wherein they portrayed two estranged sisters who got to meet after 12 years of being separated.
The 24-year-old actress once again got paired with Enrique Gil, who was her leading man in “Wayback Home,” in the ‘teen romantic comedy flick inspired by the songs of Eraserheads, “The Reunion.” Their characters, Ligaya and Boggs, used to date when they were still in high school but got separated. Their paths crossed again after some years and rekindled their lovely affair.
After the tremendous success of her tandem with premier actor Coco Martin in the well-loved 2012 primetime drama Walang Hanggan, their team-up was eventually launched on the silver screen through “A Moment In Time.” Shot in the picturesque Amsterdam, Netherlands, this followed the story of lovers who met in an unexpected way, fell in love, and eventually broke up upon the discovery of the tragic past that involved them.
As Jillian decided to get rid of him by going to Amsterdam, Patrick attempted to go back into her life to apologize and mend their rift. Although it had been difficult for him to regain her love at first, ‘happily ever after’ still ensued for them.
In 2015, she got tangled in a love triangle with Gerald Anderson and JC de Vera in the romantic horror and psychological thriller Halik sa Hangin. She portrayed Mia, the young woman who struggled to adjust in her new family and environment and was able to somehow able to cope through the help of the two guys she met – Gio (played by Gerald) and Alvin (played by JC). Just when her romance with Gio started, it was found out that he’s already a ghost and he’s only luring her to join him in the afterlife.
