Classic Pinoy comedy films introduced the idea that ‘unattractive’ men, or those whose looks do not conform to typical showbiz standards, make more effective comedians. But this flavour evolved over the years as more celebrities prove that facial feature isn’t always the apex of humor. Now, we’re taking this as cue to introduce Zanjoe Marudo, the Funny Hottie of Philippine Cinema.
Blessed with the irresistible tall-dark-and-handsome characteristic, Zanjoe started as a ramp model. He joined the modelling contest “Body Shots” in 2001 where he emerged as first runner-up. Later on came his ticket to show business – a spot in Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition in 2006 where he finished as 4th Big Placer.
Since living in the PBB house, Zanjoe gained more popularity and landed on several television projects including Aalog-alog, Super Inggo, Dyosa, Tubig At Langis, Playhouse and a few appearances in the longest-running drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya. He also portrayed daddy roles in Ningning and My Dear Heart.
His career as a film actor-comedian took off in 2017 via “You Got Me” alongside Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milby. Little by little, Zanjoe was able to build his own brand of comedy – a style where hunky meets funny!
Among his notable movies, where he combined his leading man appeal and humor, are “Kimmy Dora: Kambal sa Kiyeme and its sequel “Kimmy Dora and the Temple of Kiyeme”. He also starred in ”Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi” (2011), “24/7 In Love” (2012), “My Illegal Wife” (2014), and “The Third Party” (2016).
Zanjoe last topbilled the comedy film “Kusina Kings” alongside funny man Empoy Marquez in 2018. He served audiences with punchlines and a bit of hilarious romance with Natalie Hart on the side, just the right blend of his own comedic style.
So, get you a man like Zanjoe who’s more than just god looks but could also tickle your funny bones.
