The year 2019 brought Yeng Constantino in a place of abundant career milestones including an Album of the Decade Award, 50 million streams on the digital music platform Spotify, and having been named as one of the Top Artists of the Year. The singer-songwriter also stars in the 2019 MMFF entry “Write about Love”, a story of two writers of different genres collaborating for the perfect romantic screenplay.
But amid the good things, Yeng faced a major controversy when she posted a vlog entry criticizing a doctor who failed to give her husband, Yan Asuncion, immediate attention during a medical emergency in Siargao. “I felt like the world was against me”, said Yeng as she looked back on the intense bashing she received at that “lowest point” in her career.
The experience made Yeng appreciate the support of those who never left her side like her Dad and Yan who, according to her, was hesitant of her decision to publicize their experience. But Yan simply wanted to give her the freedom to voice out her thoughts. After the incident, the couple made a vow to always listen to each other’s judgment.
Boy Abunda shared his stand on the topic, saying he empathizes with Yeng’s impulsive reaction since he also knew how it felt like to be scared for a loved one’s life. The veteran host looked back on his late mother’s agonizing two-month stay in the hospital. He mentioned an article explaining that a person is most likely to react with high emotions during emergency situations. Although, he clarified that disrespecting a medical personnel isn’t appropriate, either.
