Even before he announced his relationship with Barbie Imperial, Diego Loyzaga has always carried the image of a sweet, loving, and protective man. In a past episode of TWBA, the Kapamilya actor talked about the other special women in his life – his mother, Teresa Loyzaga, and three half-sisters.
In 2000, Teresa turned her back on showbiz to live an ordinary life as a flight attendant in Australia. But, nothing really feels like home than the presence of loved ones. She went back and stayed in the Philippines for good after several years. It was Diego who convinced her to stay.
“Hinatak ko siya dito. Sabi ko, ‘Ma, I’m sorry, you’re not going back to Australia. Stay here with me. We can work around here. We can make a life here. We can support each other and I need you here.’ Sinabi ko sa kanya, ‘Kailangan kita dito, Ma,’” shared Diego.
The actor also maintained his closeness with his half-sisters Angelina, Samantha, and Chesca – daughters of Sunshine Cruz with Cesar Montano.
“Ever since, we were always very close. Growing up at my Dad’s house pa, magkakasama ho kaming lahat. Hindi naman matagal nawala ‘yung communication between my sisters and I,” he revealed.
Diego, who loves to post his bonding moments with his sisters on social media, said he is quite a protective ‘kuya’ especially now that his siblings are starting to get the boys’ attention.
“Nagsabi na nga ako sa social media, eh. May pinost na nga akong photo namin ni Buching, eh. ‘Sige, kung may manliligaw man sa’yo, kailangan muna magpakilala sa akin,’” he said of Angelina, the eldest of the tres marias.
Diego doesn’t want to scare other boys but he thinks being protective is part of his nature as an older brother.
“I don’t want to come off naman as controlling or anything but she’s my sister. Honestly, even though I don’t see them as much as I would like to, I still care for them. I’m still their kuya. Hindi ‘yun mawawala sa akin. Honestly, I always wanted a younger brother and sister, and I have them, I have three,” he explained.
For Diego, it is just right to take care of the people in his life.
