Anne Curtis, one of the most followed celebrities in the country, would be willing to line up (as per fangirls’ rule) for her Korean idols. In this throwback video from TWBA, the national sweetheart shared how she fell in love with all things Korean and the craziest things she did as a fan.
The K-drama obsession started during a random movie night with her husband Erwan Heussaff. Searching for something to watch, they came across “Train to Busan.” Anne spotted its lead actor Gong Yoo and commented on his cuteness, which Erwan acknowledged with a nonchalant “he’s okay.”
Struck by the Gong Yoo magic, Anne became an instant fan that she searched him up on the internet. She watched his past series including “Goblin” and from there explored other K-dramas and artists. “I got hooked. I learned more about the writers. I watched “Descendants of the Sun,” which has the same writer and director as “Goblin.” Na-in love na naman ako so nakilala ko naman doon si Song Joong-ki at Song Hye Kyo.”
Anne was also captured by the Song-Song couple. And as a fangirl, she would feel elated at the smallest coincidence related to her idols. She said she was overjoyed when the Song-Song couple got married just before she and Erwan tied the knot. She was also in Korea when Song Joong-ki and Song Hye Kyo said ‘I do.’ “Mag-todo fan girl kaya ako? Abang-abang,” she thought then, like an ordinary fan would.
Asked about the most outrageous thing she did in the name of K-drama addiction, Anne recalled flying to Hong Kong in 2017 to attend Gong Yoo’s fan meet. Coincidentally, Kim Atienza was interviewing Gong Yoo so he thought of tagging her backstage. But while waiting for their turn, they were told that only one person per country is given a pass for the interview – and that was Kuya Kim.
The failed moments did not stop there. After the interview, Kuya Kim asked for Gong Yoo’s fan sign for him and Anne. The Korean superstar asked who Anne Curtis is. It sounded like the perfect cue to introduce Anne, who was patiently waiting outside, but Kuya Kim was too starstruck to speak up.
“’Yun siguro ‘yung pinaka-outrageous thing na ginawa ko. Nagpaalam ako, regardless if I knew I was going to get an interview or not. Sumugod ako at nanood ako ng fan meeting nya,” shared Anne.
Apart from Gong Yoo, Anne’s most favorite oppas are Lee Dong-Wook, Ji Chang Wook, Jo In-sung, and the members of BTS and EXO. But for the most handsome Korean heartthrob for her is still no other than It’s Showtime co-host Ryan Bang.
Veteran host Boy Abunda went on to talk about meeting Gong Yoo and the superstar’s shy yet captivating demeanor. Envious, Anne could only sigh and daydream. Fast forward to 2019, Anne finally achieved her ultimate fangirl dream – a close encounter with Gong Yoo.
