Mega-blockbuster movie director Cathy Garcia-Molina appeared on Tonight With Boy Abunda and talked about the possibility of working with John Lloyd Cruz again and reenacted some of the most famous lines in her movies.
Cathy Garcia-Molina has directed some of the most memorable and most talked about films including “One More Chance,” “The Hows Of Us,” “Four Sisters And a Wedding” and the most recent “Hello, Love, Goodbye.” Boy Abunda challenged her to reenact some of the most famous lines from her iconic films. She delivered lines of Kathyrn Bernardo in “She’s Dating The Gangster,” John Lloyd Cruz’s line in “A Very Special Love” and Bea Alonzo’s line in “One More Chance.” She said that knowing how to act helps her in directing her films.
“Ano ‘yung totoo? Ano ‘yung natural?” she said, revealing that she requires her actors not only to internalize their roles but to embody their characters’ heartaches and experiences. In “Hello, Love , Goodbye,” both Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards had to take a shift in a bar to understand the circumstances of their characters in the film. Additionally, Direk Cathy purposely isolated Kathryn both from the cast and Daniel Padilla to help her internalize her character.
“You cannot act something, an emotion that you have never gone through,” she shared that not even the best actors in the industry can act out emotions that they have never felt. Direk Cathy helps them realize and understand that they have to transform into their characters while shooting the film instead of just acting out and memorizing the lines of their characters.
She revealed that her favorite scene in “Hello, Love, Goodbye” is Kathryn’s beauty pageant moment because that’s when Kathryn lost herself and truly became Joy. While her favorite scene of Alden Richards’ is at the final moments of the film where he was talking to Kathryn at the pier.
Direk Cathy thanked all the supporters of “Hello, Love, Goodbye” for watching the film and making it a blockbuster success in just two weeks after its premiere. “Somehow I make people laugh. I make people happy and it’s hard to leave the industry because of that so maybe I’m coming back,” she shared that she’s overwhelmed that her films resonate with moviegoers.
Direk Cathy denied that she’s retiring anytime soon. Instead, she said, she’ll just take a break before doing two more movies, one with Piolo Pascual. Direk Cathy revealed that John Lloyd Cruz called her before the shooting of “Hello, Love, Goodbye” to ask her about the rumors of her impending retirement but she denied it immediately and promised that she’ll make one more movie with John Lloyd once he’s ready to come back to showbiz. But she clarified that there hasn’t been any official meetings or agreements to make a movie with John Lloyd yet.
The King Of Talk asked Direk Cathy to name celebrities that she’d want to work with in different genres. If ever she’ll direct a horror movie, she’d want Jodi Sta. Maria to be the main protagonist of the film. While she confidently chose MayWard, Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber’s love team, to star in one of her romantic comedy flicks since she finds them adorable both on and off-screen.
Daniel Padilla is Direk Cathy’s choice out of Coco Martin and Gerald Anderson to star if ever she makes an action film in the future. “Parang magsasama ‘yung comedy namin so parang baka may fusion of something new,” she revealed that she’d want to work with Vice Ganda for another comedy film.
Sarah Geronimo is the clear option in Direk Cathy’s eyes to star if she’ll direct a musical film in the far future. And lastly, she jokingly chose Tito Boy instead of Dimples Romana and Beauty Gonzales to be her main protagonist in a heavy drama film.
