Well-known personality and car enthusiast Ian King – now known as Angie Mead King – broke the internet when she came out in public as a transgender woman in 2016. Angie recalls her journey that was filled with both fear and support.
It was in mid-2016 when Angie created a social media account under her female name but she kept it a secret at first until another application notified her friends about its existence. Her family and friends started asking questions that same day and she also didn’t know what to do.
So, Angie consulted her ever-supportive wife, model Joey Mead who gave her the go signal to publicize the said account. “Walang judgment. Hindi mahirap kasi may support,” Angie said referring to the moral strength she got from her family, especially her wife and stepmother.
Three years since then, Angie says life has been really great. “Now, as a transgender woman, I have more businesses and success with my racing career. Ang dami kong nagagawa ngayon kasi ‘yung weight sa utak ko nawala, eh,” Angie relates.
Angie remains devoted to her passion – business, cars, and racing. While she is grateful her gender was never an issue in her racing career, Angie reveals she still experiences bullying at times but just all because of her performance in the circuit. “Hindi kasi ako kulelat,” Angie shares with delight.
Aside from these, Angie has also experienced doing runway modeling since her coming out. Her wife, Joey has always been her mentor but Angie says cars are still her cup of tea than modeling.
