In this throwback TWBA episode from 2019, Rufa Mae Quinto brought us to a planet of laughter when she took on Boy Abunda’s challenge to audition for ‘Darna.’ Up for any task to make fans happy, Rufa Mae gamely showcased her version of a ‘high-risk’ stunt. After all, she was once a superheroine as well.
In 2019, netizens voted Rufa Mae as the next ‘Darna’ following Liza Soberano’s exit. Old footage from the 2002 film “Super B,” where Ruifa Mae took on the titular role, resurrected online. Super B is the alter-ego of an ordinary girl who gets special powers through a mysterious ring. Just like any other guardian of the world, Super B has her own kind of magical transformation as well.
So when veteran host Boy Abunda asked her to audition as the next Darna, Rufa Mae gamely did hilarious stunts like exaggerated twirls and cartwheels to showcase what sets her apart from other aspirants. She joked that it’s her way of proving herself capable of doing high-risk stunts ala action star. She accidentally ripped her pants, closing the impromptu audition with a hilarious blooper!
The funny gal went on to talk about motherhood and her married life with Trevor Magallanes. In that year, Rufa Mae stunned everyone with her insanely gorgeous photos taken in Balesin Island, as if she’s still rocking her pre-baby bod.
She was with good friend Kim Chiu during that Balesin escapade. Rufa Mae shared that she’s best friends with Kim’s sister, Twinkle Chiu. She also brought her daughter, Athena. Asked about her parenting style, Rufa Mae said she never resorts to physical punishment. There was a time when she got injured and hospitalized due to Athena’s stubbornness but she looked at the incident as a drive to become more attentive to her daughter.
Apart from her figure, netizens also noticed that she wasn’t with her husband, Trev. More so, a photo caption saying “break free” further ignited breakup rumors. Rufa Mae denied the issue, saying the caption was not about her relationship status but it talked more about her life as a mother and wife.
There were times when she’d feel like a zombie working non-stop in maintaining the house and looking after her child. So, she'd take advantage of quick vacations to escape for a while from her exhausting job.
Rufa Mae also clarified that she and Trev were doing perfectly well in their long-distance setup. Trev was in the United States for his police training. Rufa Mae and Athena flew to the States for Trev’s graduation that year.
Talking about long-distance relationships, Rufa Mae advised couples to simply become more trusting of their partners, saying it is important in making a long-distance relationship work. She added that Trev is supportive of her career. He also pushed her to start working out again.
To end the interview, Rufa Mae took on a challenge where she translated the title of Kapamilya shows. She translated FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano to “The Promdi, “Hiyas” to “I’m shy,” Asintado to “bulls eye,” and “Gulong ng Palad” to “The wheels of the bus is on the palms..” Rufa Mae translated Kadenang Ginto as ‘Go go gold lock’ uttered in her trademark tone of voice.
