Frankie Pangilinan is following the footsteps of her Megastar mom, Sharon Cuneta, as an aspiring singer-songwriter. Frankie guested on Tonight With Boy Abunda in 2019 to talk about her single, her plans to study abroad and her favorite Sharon Cuneta song.
Frankie revealed to the King of Talk that she taught herself how to play the guitar with the help of some friends and never had gone through formal lessons. She disclosed staying up late on the night before the interview because she was composing a song.
Boy Abunda noted that the title of Frankie’s single is interesting, “Battle Scars.” Admittedly, she found it ridiculous and annoyong since she’s too young to have battle scars. But when song was produced as a studio single, she eventually learned to love it and thought of it as a letter from her younger self. Frankie also sang a short verse of “Mr. DJ,” which she said is her favorite song of her mom.
Frankie revealed that she’s working non-stop during her summer break in high school and has composed multiple songs to be released once she’s abroad to continue her studies. “I’m gonna be leaving a part of myself here. I might be there but my soul is still here,” she promised to release a few more songs.
In a special segment Tito Boy christened “Frankihan,” he asked Frankie to answer questions based on photos flashed on screen. The first is photo posted on Instagram that showed Frankie in a bikini baring some skin on a beach. When Tito Boy asked if her parents were incensed, Frankie said, “No.” She added that, “It depends on the intent of the photo and my only intent was I’m at the beach, it’s my body...if girls can’t feel comfortable in their own body, if girls aren’t allowed to do what they want with their body, then what kind of world am I growing up in?”
Another photo showed Frankie with her mom and sisters KC and Miel. Tito Boy asked if she had differences with Sharon and Miel regarding K-pop, to which she answered in the affirmative. And, when the King of Talk asked if KC plans to get married soon, Frankie only gave a hearty guffaw.
Tito Boy asked how Frankie and Pinoy Big Brother Otso ex-housemate, Rhys Eugenio, met and became close. Frankie shared that she’s been friends with Rhys even before he entered the PBB house. She said she invited Rhys to Christmas dinner two years ago when he just moved to the Philippines. At that time, Rhys, she said, had no friends to celebrate the holidays with. She denied that they were a couple or that Rhys is courting her and shared that they are really just good friends who continuously annoy each other.
True to the show’s tradition, Frankie didn’t escape Tito Boy’s Fast Talk segment. She shared that Miguel, Stella and Hannah Pangilinan are her closest cousins in the family. She also revealed humourously that her “edge” over half-sister KC Concepcion is that she has scoliosis while KC has a perfectly straight spine. Frankie said she got her laugh and humor from her mom.
