“Try ko kaya?” Sue Ramirez thought to herself when she saw Star Magic’s call for auditions. She never dreamt of entering showbiz but the heavens indeed know how to make things that are meant for you happen.
In a past episode of TWBA, Sue looked back on her childhood and her first audition. She grew up close with her father, who suffered from a stroke when she was only six, and passed on after 11 years of being paralyzed.
As much as she wants him to be with her in her journey, since he was the reason why she’s here, Sue wouldn’t want her dad to suffer longer. “It wasn’t a good condition for him. So if he’s in that condition tapos makikita niyang ganito ako, okay lang na namahinga na po siya.” Besides, she knows her father is watching over her from heaven.
Although they had the means to support her dad’s medication, Sue wanted to help and do something for him. And she saw an opportunity after watching a commercial for Star Magic. She thought to herself, “Try ko kaya?”
She continued, “Hindi ko naman po pangarap talaga maging artista. Naisip ko lang kasi baka it can help with the expenditures of my dad, makatulong ako sa mom ko. May pension naman siya for it pero iba pa rin ‘yung alam mong may nagagawa ako for him.”
Sue was the 697th auditionee. She started lining up at 8am and was called in at 11 pm while her siblings waited outside. She even had no phone or money with her.
Sue could’ve thought of leaving the audition. After all, it wasn’t her dream. But she was surprisingly relaxed, “I didn’t feel anything. Hindi ako napagod. God has His ways talaga po. Hindi ko naramadaman talaga ‘yung, ‘Aalis na lang ko. Ang init naman dito, gutom na ako.’”
Sue belted out “Angels Brought Me Here” in the audition and after a few weeks received a call back. The rest is history. From that 697th aspirant, Sue is slowly making her way to the top. She’d playing a big role in the upcoming series The Broken Marriage Vow alongside Jodi Sta. Maria and Zanjoe Marudo.
