From basura to glitz and glamour,” Manila Mayor-elect Isko Moreno says as he describes his life journey in a few words. He knows showbiz has created him the way he is right now, and he wants to give back and look back by planning an event called “Manila Film Festival” aiming to celebrate the artistic nature of the industry that he will never let go of. As a former actor, Isko wants to become an instrument of making other artists shine.
Speaking of the industry, his son Joaquin aspires to become a part of showbiz as well. He praises his son for having quite a character at an early age and a dancing skill that he can no longer adapt to. In fact, the father would willingly step down to push his son even more. “Dugyot, mukhang ‘di napapaliguan,” Isko says in jest as he looks on a photo taken in his younger years compared to Joaquin’s dashing demeanor.
Joaquin, who tagged along his father in the studio, shows off his acting skills to the King Of Talk himself. When asked about the reason for wanting to join showbiz, Joaquin claims following his father’s footsteps would be such a cliché. Besides, the truth is he simply wants to display what he’s got – skills in acting, dancing, and music.
“Being a chickboy and ‘yung English po”, Joaquin says in jest when asked about the things he doesn’t want to inherit from his father; drawing laughter from Tito Boy and Isko.
As much as Isko wanted Joaquin to focus on his studies, he knows he can’t stop his child from going after what he aspires. So, they decided to settle the dilemma by a compromise. Isko gave Joaquin the go signal to enter showbiz as long as he would make sure to earn his school diploma at the same time.
