Since most Filipinos are totally in love with the Korean culture, the birth of a K-Pop-inspired all-boy group SB19 has recently been one of social media’s trending topics.
SB19 is an ensemble of Pinoy male performers namely Sejun, Josh, Justin, Ken, and Stell who all went on an intensive training under an entertainment company in South Korea. Sounds like a true K-Pop idol, right? But, do not assume that SB19 are just mere copycats.
In this TWBA interview, the group proved that there is more to them than their K-Pop-inspired demeanor. One item in their long list of goals is to promote Filipino talent and music to the whole world. Their music video for the single “Go Up” has also caught the attention of Kapamilya artist Inigo Pascual who hinted at his desire for collaboration. SB19 also taught Boy Abunda how to dance their signature “Go Up” dance.
Hard work and dedication brought SB19 closer to their dreams. However, there was a time when they almost split up amid their four-year training due to conflict and stagnant career. The disbandment did not push through, thanks to a ritual they learned to keep. Time and again, the group would gather altogether and talk in a manner akin to an open forum. The act is followed by hugs and expressions of apology and gratitude.
It is no secret that the K-Pop industry in South Korea practice dating ban. In the case of SB19, the members are not forbidden to go on dates but they have all decided to remain single at the moment. Nevertheless, they all have their own celebrity crushes.
Ken admires Anne Curtis and would impress her with his dance moves. Sejun likes Nadine Lustre and he would do an energetic dance to get her attention. Justin would like to invite his crush, Sharlene San Pedro for a dinner. Stell would sing a song to attract Maris Racal while Ken would deliver a cheesy pick-up line to win the heart of MNL48 member Coleen Trinidad.
Capping off the episode, SB19 performed their original composition dedicated to the King Of Talk.
