Two pillars of the Philippine music industry, Regine Velasquez and Sharon Cuneta, will share the stage in an epic musical event entitled “Iconic”. But, what exactly makes the two timeless singers iconic? For Sharon, the life journey of the Asia’s Songbird is akin to a Cinderella story – how a simple girl from the province was patiently trained and nurtured by her loving father until she has become one of OPM’s finest gems. “Regine is Regine for a reason. Everything she went through, it’s the totality of a performer and all these little details that no one else has,” Sharon adds.
Regine, on the other hand, mentions gracious character and longevity as the facet of Sharon’s colorful persona that makes her truly an icon. “She is my inspiration. Nadadapa siya pero bumabangon siya”, says Regine who is a true-blue Sharonian. Regine has always seen Sharon as an artist who is committed to her supporters. “These people commute, go through rain, sweat in lines and all they want is a picture. It takes a little to make them so happy,” Sharon talks about her fans.
The Megastar reveals that she is already thinking about having a slow semi-retirement within the next two years or so. Sharon started working in the entertainment industry at a tender age and she now feels like her ‘prime years’ are already gone. “There is love in my work knowing that you could bring a certain kind of joy to people. But, you get older. We’re no longer in the race. Leave it to the kids now so, they’ll have their own time,” Sharon relates.
The Songbird, on the other hand, does not yet see herself going into that stage. Regine says she is still enjoying her job at the moment. “Na-enjoy ko talaga ngayon. Everytime I get to sing in front of an audience, I really sing my heart out,” Regine shares.
To end the episode, Boy Abunda asks his guests to describe some things using each other’s songs. On her body figure, Sharon sings “Pangako” with the lines, “Pangako hindi kita iiwan. Pangako ‘di ko pababayaan”.
Talking about her bank account, Regine belts out the lines, “Unti-unti kinabukasan ko’y magniningning”, taken from Sharon’s classic hit “Pangarap na Bituin”.
When asked about their sex life, Regine and Sharon go for “Araw-Gabi” in a duet. “Araw-gabi, nalalasing sa tuwa,” the icons sing while laughing.
