The world witnessed how she claimed the title of Miss Universe 2015, but it was never the crown that made her a queen. Many idolized her for winning in the most prestigious pageant. Many dreamed of being in her shoes even for just a moment. But this is only one chapter in her book.
The anniversary week of Tonight with Boy Abunda is all about celebrating empowered women. So, how can Pia Wurztbach not be part of the conversation?
When she was still aiming for the Miss Universe title, every second was spent practicing. She would practice posing and smiling in front of the mirror to build self-confidence. While sweeping the floor or taking a shower, she would answer questions for the Q&A. Pia would also ask the King of Talk himself to meet in restaurants and talk about current events.
Before all of this, however, she became a waitress for a few months which is how she discovered her love of cooking. Then, without her parents knowing, she tried being a factory worker. It was her decision to work at the time and it proved to be worth it. With her savings, she was able to pay for a trip to Boracay with her family. “Basta makita ko lang sila na masaya, sobrang worth it,” she stated.
It was also after this trip when she realized her Miss Universe dream. “It was time for us to go home. And we were at the airport, and I had my stuff with me. And then I told my mom, ‘Ma, hindi ako sasama’,” she recounted.
Despite many people speculating that she wants all the fame to herself, Pia is rooting for all the future candidates. “I won back in 2015. Iba na ‘yung focus ko ngayon. Iba na ‘yung mga gusto ko. ‘Yung mga goals ko ngayon, nagbago na rin,” she revealed.
Currently, Pia is the leading lady of Piolo Pascual in the weekend series My Papa Pi. But aside from being in front of the camera, she also wants to work behind the scenes. “Hindi ko nalalabas lahat kasi may pina-plano ko. And trust me, guys, when I say that I will not disappoint,” Pia shared.
