The tough battle of dreams and singing powers continues in It’s Showtime’s Tawag ng Tanghalan. But, aside from the contenders vying for a spot in the “Huling Tapatan”, the TNT hurados have also been under public scrutiny and hot water during the Ultimate Resbak week. Several netizens have boldly questioned the judges’ alleged unfair scoring in a September 11 episode where challenger Mariko Ledesma has successfully snatched the “Seat of Power” from long-time top contender Mariane Osabel.
Singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid, who also serves as one of the head judges of the competition, clarified that the hurados’ decision is always rooted on a daily performance basis. According to Ogie, as much as they’ve grown completely impressed with Mariane’s singing abilities over time, it can’t be denied that Mariko emerged as the better singer in the face-off that day. The hurados do not influence one another’s final verdict. They solve opposing decisions through proper deliberation and only the Punong Hurado holds the power to break a tie, in case of one.
Behind the scenes, the TNT hurados often get together at Ogie’s house and they would always have fun jamming out. The creative songwriter had the idea of taking their casual jam sessions into the concert stage which is finally happening on October 10 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. The big musical celebration is entitled “Ogie and the Hurados” and would include Zsa Zsa Padilla, Randy Santiago, Jed Madela, Karylle, K Brosas, Karla Estrada and Rey Valera in the list of performers.
Ogie also invites the audience to watch out for his Maalaala Mo Kaya episode this October where he would play as a puppeteer.
