Having been lauded for her deeply affecting music, Moira Dela Torre earned her spot alongside Regine Velasquez, Vice Ganda, and James Reid as a judge of the Kapamilya singing contest Idol Philippines.
To see how Moira judges a contestant, veteran host Boy Abunda pretended he was auditioning for the show. He introduced himself, “My name is Boy. Ako po ay tubong-Borongan, Samar at pangarap ko pong maging isang mang-aawit,” but when asked his age, he answered, “You have no right to ask how old I am.”
Asked what he’s going to sing, he said, “Surprise! Pinaghandaan ko po ito ng buong linggo. Pamilyar na pamilyar po ang awiting ito pero inspired by Moira at saka lalagyan ko ng sarili kong istilo.” He belted out the “Happy Birthday” song, which Moira immediately cut.
“Brad, may mga kaibigan ka ba?” she asked. He replied, “Meron ho.”
“Ano’ng sabi nila, marunong ka daw kumanta?”
“Opo”
“Hindi sila kaibigan, but it’s a yes for me.” Then, Tito Boy acted surprised, and said being a judge is a difficult task.
Moira started as a contestant on The Voice of the Philippines in 2013 and made it to the semis. She has become a household name in OPM since, gifting listeners with her heartfelt voice and poetic ‘hugot’ songs including the mega hit “Paubaya.”
