Following the World Health Organization’s (WHO) announcement on COVID19 as a pandemic, the Philippine government raises a Code Red Sublevel 2 alert as the number of infected patients in the country climbed to a total of 52. During his public address on Thursday night, President Rodrigo Duterte imposed ‘community quarantine’ all over Metro Manila.
The Department of Health urges the public to remain calm and vigilant in the midst of the global health emergency. In a public advisory, the Department of Health requires everyone to cooperate with the government in contact tracing. Those who are symptomatic with history of travel and known exposure are asked to consult and go to nearest health facilities. The public is advised to practice preventive measures such as handwashing, using alcohol with at least sixty percent potency, and proper cough etiquette. Panic-buying or hoarding of essential medical and food supplies is prohibited. Further, social distancing is encouraged by the WHO.
