The Search for the Idol Philippines has recently concluded and crowned Zephanie Dimaranan as the grand winner, but people won’t forget the two other Top 3 finalists who competed in the show. Lucas Garcia and Lance Busa separately appeared on the August 2 episode of Tonight With Boy Abunda to talk about their experiences in Idol Philippines.
Lucas revealed that he has joined many singing competitions before, but Idol Philippines differed from all of them because it was the first time he showed his true identity as part of the LGBTQ+ community. He shared that he used to pretend to be straight back then when he was starting out in amateur singing contests. He admitted that it was liberating to finally be who really is instead of pretending to be someone he’s not. He recognized that singing his original tune in the second round of the Top 3 face-off, “Because You Believed,” composed by Trina Belamide, as his best not because of technicality, but that it made him cry while performing.
Boy Abunda asked the wildest pick-up lines he has received when he catapulted to fame after his stint on Idol Philippines. He revealed that both girls and boys now call him “baby” on social media posts.
Tito Boy then asked him to make hypothetical replies to Kapamilya hunk actors James Reid, Paulo Avelino and Ejay Falcon if they asked if he was “free tonight, can we eat dinner?” To James, Lucas said he would tell him to ask permission from his girlfriend Nadine Lustre first. His reply to Ejay would be that he was already running towards him. And to Paulo, the actor need not knock for his door to open.
Lucas admitted that he was most nervous about playing TWBA’s Fast Talk. In the game, Lucas revealed that his dream duet partner is Kyla. He also denied that he had a misunderstanding with Idol Philippines hopeful, Miguel Udron. Lucas also said he prefers men who are “Pinoy na Pinoy na mukhang tambay pero gwapo.”
Another Idol Philippines finalist, Lance Busa, then joined the conversation. After winning an international contest, Lance said he still decided to join Idol Philippines to challenge himself and prove to his critics that his singing style won’t be appreciated in the Philippines. He said he wanted to “make people listen to you instead of trying to please people and go away just because they said go away.”
He admitted that a lot of people doubted that he’d even reach the Idol Philippines Final Showdown and made him believe that he would never be famous in his home country. But landing in the reality talent show’s Top 3, Lance proved these doubters wrong.
Lance sang a few lines of “Lean On Me,” the Bill Withers tune he sang in the Top 5, the Birthday Song, and the original Jimmy and Athena Antiporda composition "Kapit Lang,” which he performed in the second round of the Top 3 showdown.
Lance also played TWBA’s Fast Talk to end the show. He admitted that he has been “ghosted” before. When asked where he’d take the King Of Talk if he visits Butuan, Agusan Del Norte, Lance said he would bring hm to his home to eat lechon and kinilaw. He admitted that he’d court Morisette Amon if he had a chance but they’re just good friends at the moment.
Lucas’s original song “Because You Believed” and Lance’s “Kapit Lang” are now available in all streaming services worldwide.
