When John Lloyd Cruz went on hiatus years ago, people were certain he would come back – it’s just a matter of when. While fans embraced his decision to live a “normal” life away from the glitter and noise of showbiz, they also patiently waited for his return. And it’s finally happening as the Lloydie we all love, the most talented actor of his generation, just announced his much-awaited comeback!
As we anticipate seeing him again on TV and films, here’s a video from a TWBA guesting when he talked about the pitfalls of having a luminous career and why taking a break is an inevitable part of growth.
Veteran host Boy Abunda asked John Lloyd if he’s ever thought of quitting showbiz. The actor answered with a candid “yes.” Shunning off hypocrisy, he said everyone goes through the same phase. The difference is that celebrities have to weigh deeper because of several commitments.
“Life’s natural cycle ‘yan and you don’t go against, eh. You don’t argue with it. Siguro sa aming mga artista, humihirap lang because mayroon kaming commitment lagi. Mayroon kaming kontrata, mayroon kaming nasagutan, may commitment sa audience at network, and to myself,” he explained.
John Lloyd continued, “If I would honor myself more than the rest, baka mas madalas ako nagwo-walk away because walking away, meaning hindi naman para talikuran o iwan ang lahat. Sometimes you just have to walk away para pagbalik mo, mas okay ka.”
The matinee idol maintained that fame is never the end goal, which is why he gave an honest “no” when asked if he’s scared to be called “laos.” He shared, “Hindi naman ‘yun ang pinunta ko dito. Malinaw naman sa akin kung bakit ako nandito and it’s my love for the craft. That’s it and it’s been taking me to places I’ve never been to.”
Acting has brought a positive impact on his life. Passion, and never the fame, kept him going since his Tabing Ilog days.
Asked what he would like to change in the industry, John Lloyd mentioned that he wants the public to be more open-minded and be more willing to experience something new.
