John Lloyd Cruz was fourteen when he got his major showbiz break by becoming part of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic. He faced a lot of changes since then, career-wise and in his personal life. Besides the critical acclaim and recognition, an intimidating course of television series and blockbuster films, it can’t be denied that John Lloyd gained maturity and depth over the years.
In this TWBA interview, John Lloyd faced Boy Abunda’s golden mirror and imagined seeing his 14-year-old self in the reflection, the young John Lloyd who’s just about to enter showbiz. “I think you made the right choice,” said John Lloyd, smiling, and talking to the neophyte version of him.
Still facing the mirror, John Lloyd was asked to stare at his present reflection, and tell whatever he wanted. “Being 34 is not easy. Parang ngayon, grabe ‘yung mga choices and decisions that you need to make,” he started.
John Lloyd went on to remind himself not to be afraid of what lies ahead. “Dude, okay lang ‘yan kasi I think it’s going to be a good ride from here.”
The Kapamilya actor continued, telling himself the things he wishes to hear from others as well. “I just want to tell you and the rest of my audience, kasi walang nagsasabi nito sa akin. It’s okay if you feel different. It’s okay,” John Lloyd smiled and took a pause, as if mustering the courage to reveal his thoughts. “You should trust your gut because in the end it’s going to be you, yourself.”
