Acting virtuosos Aga Muhlach, Joel Torre, and John Arcilla were asked about their impressions on one another. John recalled watching the classic film “Oro Plata Mata” in 1982 where he saw Joel as a game changer in the Philippine movie industry. Three years later, he was impressed with Aga’s raw acting in the film “Miguelito, Ang Batang Rebelde” and took it as an inspiration to deliver impeccably as well. While John was expressing appreciation for Aga’s sterling performance in the said movie, Joel was noticeably nodding his head in agreement. John is proud to finally share a project with two of the most brilliant actors he looks up to.
Meanwhile, Joel admitted that he has long been impressed with John especially in Raymond Red’s alternative film “Anino”. On Aga, Joel said, “Seldom do you have the marriage of a commercial and critical success and that’s what Aga has. He has the box-office appeal and the artistic side of him which is a very good combination”.
Flattered and honored, Aga returned the compliments to his “Miracle in Cell No. 7” co-stars and added that he also looks up to them.
Despite the unquestionable expertise in their field, the three veteran actors admit that they have their down days as well. “I never thought of myself as a good actor”, Aga claimed. Joel expressed that every artist has his own insecurity. Sharing his point of view, John described the filmmaking industry as magical and collaborative. There are times when what he considers a bad performance would turn out well due to the right elements such as lighting and angle. But the opposite scenario can also happen at times.
The three veteran actors star in the Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean movie “Miracle in Cell No. 7”. John believes that their entry to this year’s MMFF is a relevant piece in tackling injustice. Joel added that the film revolves around a man deprived of liberty and his journey towards redemption. Aga, who portrays the lead male character, takes pride in the film’s powerhouse.
To end the episode, Joel took on the Fast Talk Challenge. He mentioned Cherrie Gil as his favorite leading lady and confessed that he had two showbiz girlfriends in the past. When asked to reveal a fact about Coco Martin, Joel said, “Namimigay ng kotse ‘yon!”
