In an interview for Tonight with Boy Abunda, comedienne Candy Pangilinan shared her inspiring story of raising Quentin, her child with special needs. In the same episode, she also looked back at how she blamed herself for her son’s condition, thinking it was caused by stress due to her problematic love life while she was pregnant.
According to Candy, her ex-husband left a month after she gave birth, although they had short-lived communication simply because of the non-support case she filed against him. She said she hasn’t received financial support since Quentin’s birth.
However, Candy had to withdraw the case for practical reasons, “Na-stop na ‘yung case. Inisip ko kasi, kesa magbayad ako ng lawyer, ibayad ko na lang sa therapy.” Candy raised Quentin singlehandedly, with assistance from her family especially her mom. And, ultimately, from the Man above.
She has no clue on her ex-husband’s whereabouts. Quentin does not ask questions about his father, either. Moving forward, Candy said she has already forgiven her ex-husband for her own peace.
“Na-realize ko na ‘pag ako nagngingitngit, hindi naman siya naaapektuhan, ako lang. Hindi ako nakakatulog sa bwisit pero siya tulog na tulog, so sayang lang ang effort. I realized, my spiritual mentor told me, forgiveness is freedom,” expressed Candy.
The talented actress mentioned that she is not dating, although there are guys hinting their romantic intentions.
