Not many people know that Boy Abunda is a certified shoe lover. In this exclusive video, the veteran host shows off his impressive shoe collection – all are designer brands!
Tito Boy won’t lie that his shoes are expensive. He even does an inventory. But unlike other collectors who would only buy pairs for display, he uses each item for his TV appearances and other hosting gigs. He explained that shoes are damaged when rarely worn.
The well-loved showbiz personality mentioned that his father used to consider shoes as a waste of money back in the days when they weren’t financially abundant. “Alam mo ang kwento ng Nanay, ‘yung bibili siya ng payong, damit, sapatos tapos tinatago niya dahil ayaw na ayaw ng Tatay na bumibili ng sapatos hangga’t maaari ‘pag meron ka pang gamit. For Tatay, it was extravagance,” he shared.
He learned from his mother to always buy shoes one size bigger, so he could still wear them as he grows older.
Tito Boy thinks shoes are a big part of his job as a host. The need for more pairs eventually sparked his fascination with shoes. He’d rather have a pair of new kicks than new clothes.
On passing it down to someone, Tito Boy would admit that he loves his collection and he can’t easily let them go. For one reason, they are expensive. He added that no one would seem to appreciate his taste in shoes.
He has pairs of high-heeled boots, leather, sportswear, and dress shoes in his collection. Brands include Rick Owens (he wore one during the Star Magic Ball), Christian Louboutin, Louis Vuitton, Dolce and Gabbana, Alexander McQueen, and Paul Smith.
“The advantage is you can wear it for years, even decades. Bakit ganun karami? Taon ang binilang nito at hindi ako nagdi-dispose talaga ng sapatos kasi nga karamihan nito ay pinag-ipunan ko at nagagamit ko talaga. Iniisip ko din, sinong pagmamanahan ko nito?” he added.
Some of the items are gifts from friends like Kris Aquino. The actress-host loves to bring him pairs of shoes as ‘pasalubong’ from her travels abroad.
The King of Talk shared that he was discriminated in a shoe store in Paris. “Dumating kami doon mga pawisan, siguro mukha kaming dugyot. Sabi sa amin ng salesman, ‘Careful! You might scratch the floor’”
To show off, he asked for the store’s new collection. The salesman brought out the old one, so he asked again for the new deigns. Hurt and offended, Tito Boy bought four pairs of designer’s shoe.
Tito Boy ends the vlog by sharing his takeaway from his journey. “Do not be afraid to dream. Kung noong bata pa kami, tig-isa lang kami ng pair ng kapatid ko at mas malaki pa ng one and half inches dahil sabi ng Nanay kahit ilang taon, hindi na kailangan bumili ng bago dahil kasya pa. Isang araw pala, one day in your life, it’s going to happen that, siguro dahil bahagi ng trabaho, I would own all these pairs of shoes. Take it one day at a time. Let’s take it one pair of shoe at a time,” said the King of Talk.
