Tonight with Boy Abunda welcomes Paul Soriano, known for directing popular films such as Thelma (2011), Kid Kulafu (2015) and Dukot (2016). This year, he takes on his first romantic film with First Love, starred by Aga Muhlach and Bea Alonzo. The award-winning director and producer takes on the TWBA hot seat to talk all things “first love”—including his life as a director, as a husband to Toni Gonzaga and as a father to their son, Seve.
At the start of the show, Tito Boy asks about his puppy love to which the director answers that he was a late bloomer and only started dating when he was a senior in high school. On talks of his first love, Paul admits that Toni is his first love—in a sense that he made the decision on his own to spend the rest of his life with her. When asked on his previous relationships, Paul tells that he’s only had two girlfriends before Toni and that he has learned a lot from them. Tito Boy then asks how he managed girls flirting with him and Paul admits that he had his fun in his youth but now he has pretty much matured compared to live-like-there’s-no-tomorrow attitude back in the day.
The King of Talk also asks Paul about his profession, inquiring on the best part about being a director. Direk Paul answers that the great thing about being a director is that it allows him to unleash his ideas and imaginations. When Tito Boy asks what matters more between the viewers and acting awards, the director honestly conveys that he does films for himself. He reasons that it’s hard to please everyone and know what every moviegoer would like in a film and so he made it a point to create films for himself so whether or not it flops or succeeds, he can say it was his vision and direction, and is something he’s proud of.
