Not much is known about the private life of The Voice of the Philippines Coach Bamboo Mañalac. So, you better not skip this TWBA Online Exclusive video where the rock icon shares interesting details about him, asked by curious and adoring netizens.
On managing to keep his private life out of the limelight, Bamboo said it’s a challenge that requires careful effort on his part. “I made an effort to do that since the beginning and I’m happy for that.” Luckily, his fans aren’t that nosy, either. They might be curious sometimes, and it’s a given, but they also know how to respect their idol’s wish to keep his private life private. “Sometimes people really do post but most of the time, they ask for permission or they’ll tell me, ‘I’m not going to post this’.”
The Bamboo tree, from where his name was taken, symbolizes positive characteristics especially in the Asian culture. “It was given by my parents,” the musician said when asked about his name’s origin. “They just love that name, the meaning of Bamboo which is about resiliency, humility.” Her Filipino-American mom also had a strong liking for the Philippine folklore about a mango tree and a bamboo tree, which gives moral lessons on pliancy.
Living up to his name’s meaning, the superstar had a modest life while he was in the States working as the likes of a shoe vendor and bus boy to pay for his schooling. Looking back on those humble moments, Bamboo said he will never have it any other way. “You push yourself to grow. I was studying and doing all of that but I had the best time. Those experiences working made me who I am today. It keeps me grounded,” he spoke.
This simplicity will never be taken away from Bamboo’s core. He mentioned that living that kind of life again is part of his bucket list. He was telling his manager about his wish to stay in a big city for a month or so and “just get in the grind.”
