As she celebrates 30th anniversary in the showbiz industry, Jaya looks back on the beautiful journey that led her into her throne as OPM’s Queen of Soul. According to Jaya, she started out as a back-up dancer for her mother, Elizabeth Ramsay in the year 1980 and at the age of 10.
After two years, her mom encouraged her to hold the microphone instead and practice her singing skills. Elizabeth’s persistent persuasion is rooted from her wish to have her daughter fill in her legacy once she retires. At first, Elizabeth tried to train her eldest daughter, Susan who did not have flair for music, so she focused on Jaya instead.
“Walang katulad”, is how Jaya describes her mother. She finds herself lucky to witness Elizabeth’s fiery on-stage performances and tough character; and is grateful that she got to imbibe these attributes.
As part of her anniversary, Jaya invites her avid fans and audiences for a musical gathering on April 3 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Jaya’s anniversary concert entitled “Jaya: At Her Finest” holds special guests like musical royalties, Jay-R, Kyla, Pilita Corrales, Ogie Alcasid, and Regine Velasquez.
