As she celebrates 30th anniversary in the showbiz industry, Jaya looks back on the beautiful journey that led her into her throne as OPM’s Queen of Soul. According to Jaya, she started out as a back-up dancer for her mother, Elizabeth Ramsay in the year 1980 and at the age of 10.
As part of her anniversary, Jaya invites her avid fans and audience for a musical gathering on April 3 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Jaya’s anniversary concert entitled “Jaya: At Her Finest” holds special guests like musical royalties, Jay-R, Kyla, Pilita Corrales, Ogie Alcasid, and Regine Velasquez.
The Queen of Soul brings her soulful voice and fun persona on the set of Tonight with Boy Abunda where she is tasked to play the WhoLa Challenge. But to give it a twist, Jaya is required to describe the person in the photo through a song instead of plain adjectives or words.
It is hardly surprising that Tito Boy is able to guess Erik Santos’ picture as Jaya belts out “This is the Moment”; a song that has long been imprinted to Erik’s musical career. “This is the Moment” was his winning piece in the TV singing competition, Star in a Million in 2003.
Jaya tries to impersonate Ogie Alcasid’s light tenor voice while singing his hit song “Nandito Ako”. Of course, when Yeng Constantino’s image appears, anyone would associate her with the breakout hit “Hawak Kamay” that put her under OPM’s spotlight after winning Pinoy Dream Academy in 2007.
Lastly, Jaya gives a soulful rendition of “Til I Met You” a la Queen of RNB Kyla.
