Katrina Velarde began her singing journey since she was a little kid. She started joining amateur singing contests at the age six in order to help provide financial support to her family. She considers herself as a veteran in amateur singing contests; joining a total of 300 competitions in provinces all over the Philippines.
Her biggest break came when she became part of the X-Factor Philippines in 2012. Katrina says that being part of X-Factor is a big experience. Her coach, Gary Valenciano, did not only train her vocally but also helped her become closer to God.
However, Katrina had to take it slow in showbiz when she got pregnant in 2015. While pregnant, she simply continued acting as Gary V’s back-up singer in his shows. She also suffered from Bell’s Palsy which developed during her 7th month of pregnancy. This forced her to completely put her singing career aside. Her therapy and recovery took quite a long time.
Right now, Katrina juggles her time being a singer and a mother. Her son, Kendrick is turning three already and she is happy to share that he is doing well. Katrina is grateful that she is still able to go back to showbiz and pursue her passion in singing.
She’ll be celebrating her comeback with a concert in February. Katrina is also grateful to the fans and people who have faith in her talent.
