Can you see the resemblance? You might not recognize her right away, but this is RJ Bonggay or Elsa Droga Mendoza as we know her today.
Yes, before being one of It’s Showtime’s Miss Q & A Top 6 finalists, she used to walk around with a short haircut and one studded ear. Taking baby steps, she started to put more thought into her hairstyle by dying it cooper brown or adding some blue highlights. Until eventually, the world saw her become a full fledge and glammed up kontesera.
To really up her pageant game, Elsa recently underwent a face and body transformation. She had wrinkles removed, eyebrows done, teeth whitened and so much more even her lashes were treated. , RJ is just a part of her past, but is still a time in her life that she would never forget.
On Tonight with Boy Abunda, she recalled her childhood as blissful, “Masaya lang, walang problema.” Living in Tondo at 10 years old, she was just like any other kid that played patintero out on the streets.
Elsa initially identified with the LGBTQ community as a bisexual during high school. She also had a boyfriend then, but it was all kept secret. No one outside of her school knew about her sexuality. And she was hesitant to come out because of people’s perception of her, “Noong unang tingin nila, noong ganyan pa ‘yong itsura ko, lalaking lalaki.”
It was having the confidence in herself that Elsa finally decided to join her first pageant and show people who she truly is, “Alam kong may talent ako sa pagiging komedyante.”
