Tonight With Boy Abunda is where we witnessed the most telling interviews with celebrities, who chose to open up candidly about their lives, be it an achievement they celebrated or a challenge they overcame.
This is true most especially for those first timers on the TWBA hot seat this year, who surprised and delighted us with their revelations and statements of inspiration. Let’s look back at these stars who indeed left a wonderful impression with their first guesting on TWBA.
Kicking off, here are the newly signed Kapamilya talents this year on their first sit-down hot seat interview on TWBA. They are Mark Neumann, the Filipino-Croatian actor who starred in blockbuster films like “Harry and Patty” and “I Love You, Hater,” and multi-awarded singer-songwriter Wency Cornejo who became a new Star Music recording artist this year.
Artists who made their monumental comebacks as a Kapamilya also graced the show. They are singer/actor Janno Gibbs, actress Louise Delos Reyes, and Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, whose interview was a 2-part episode during the celebration on TWBA’s third year.
A number of personalities 2018 also had their first hot seat moment on the show this year. They are DJ Jhai Ho of MOR 101.9, Alora Sasam, and fast rising rapper Shanti Dope who became famous with the hit song “Nadarang”. Former Pinoy Big Brother Otso housemate Criza Ta-a was also interviewed days after her exit from Kuya’s house, and It’s Showtime’s Kuya Escort Ion Perez and Ate Girl Jackque Gonzaga, who both talked about their lives before fame and the changes experienced after being celebrities.
Others stars who have been in the industry for a while that recently snagged breakthrough roles also had their first time on the TWBA Hot Seat. They include Neil Coleta who starred in the Cinema One Originals film titled “Pang-MMK,” Josh Colet who currently part of Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Los Bastardos, and YouTube sensation Donnalyn Bartolome who headlined the film “Cry No Fear. Teen stars Francine Diaz and Andrea Brillantes opened up about their first teleserye together, Kadenang Ginto. Meanwhile, Roxanne Barcelo talked about her success story in playing the role of Nathalie Alcantara in Wildflower, and comedian Nonong Ballinan expressed how blessed he is in having many shows now like Home Sweetie Home and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
Music personalities like former vocalist/original frontman of the OPM band IV of Spades Unique Salonga, and singer/composer Ebe Dancel also had their debut on the hot seat. Teen star AC Bonifacio also had her first hot seat interview after the release of her very first single titled “Sumayaw, Sumaya”.
Award-winning personalities celebrated their triumphant moments with their first appearance on the TWBA Hot Seat. They are Tessie Tomas who was recently awarded Best Actress in Subic International Film Festival for her role in the film “Old Skool,” the Miss Q & A Season 1 Top 6 finalists, Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s Season 2 grand champion Janine Berdin, Pilipinas Got Talent Season 6’s third placer Joven Olvido, PGT Season 6 Grand Winner Kristel de Catalina and beauty queens Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2018 titlist Michele Gumabao and the recently crowned Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
Famous celebrities who returned to TV acting in 2018 also had their first hot seat interview for the year on TWBA. These are multi-awarded actress Meryll Soriano who starred in La Luna Sangre, Rita Avila who had a teleserye comeback in Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Araw Gabi and Hero Angeles who is part of the Halik cast.
Other stars on the hot seat for the first time this year include Kira Balinger, Assunta De Rossi, Maxene Magalona, Wilma Doesnt, Polo Ravales, Vandolph Quizon, Nathalie Hart, Agot Isidro, and Carlo Aquino, in addition to internationally renowned artists Jessica Sanchez and RS Francisco.
Lastly, some stars also shared how strongly they faced the challenges that came in their lives. These are Home Sweetie Home stars Rufa Mae Quinto, who had her first sit down interview weeks after her mom died, and Jobert Austria who spoke on having been fully recovered now after his controversial suicide attempt in 2014.
It really was such a joy seeing these incredible artists undergo the TWBA Hot Seat this year, and how they faced and answered the most controversial, personal, even hard-hitting questions with grace, astuteness and humor. Cheers to all of them!
