JaDine’s journey: How #TeamReal came to be

Before those three blockbuster movies and one unforgettable teleserye, who would ever think there would ever be a #TeamReal? In fact these two young artists were struggling, awaiting for that big break to come in their promising careers.

Yes, James Reid was the “Dashing Dude from Australia” who was eventually named the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash 2010 Big Winner. But since that victory, James wasn’t as fortunate with his exploits after leaving the PBB House. Fleeting from one non-eventful showbiz stint to another and ended up with no immediate chance at a new project by 2011, James was at the uncertain crossroads of his career.

Nadine Lustre was just that cute young lass in Petrang Kabayo and one of those girls in the youth oriented Bagets, the TV adaptation of the cult classic. She then became noticed in the TV version of P.S. I Love You as a lovestruck teenager as she led Viva’s Pop Girls as its most prominent performer. Yes, she was an upstart but no sign yet of the Big Time!

Enchanting story

Then the producers at Viva read an enchanting story on Wattpad, the self-publishing literature platform. Realizing Diary ng Panget, a story about an ugly girl winning the heart of a snobbish and rude prince charming, could be awesome movie material, Viva pounced on the opportunity and commenced pre-production.

And, who will take the lead roles of Eya Rodriguez and Cross Sanford? It was a toss-up between mostly named teen stars on the Viva stable, but the producers made their choice: an enchanting no-filter natural beauty regularly seen on Viva productions and the Fil-Australian hottie people remember from that hit reality show.

And the rest was history.

Audiences were electrified and astonished. Their pairing became a gripping sensation their newfound fans were cheering their shrieking voices out: JaDine!

With the sleeper P130 million box office hit not part of the MMFF season in 2012, this new love team was now the talk of the showbiz town. But the best, enamoring sight was their on-screen chemistry, leaving their growing followers so giddy and kilig to the core.

And this “affection” was further seen and felt in a follow-up Wattpad film adaptation in 2014, Talk Back and You’re Dead, which further gave justice to the hype. But nothing even close to achieving success as a love team would ever happen if they don’t land on TV.
