Four new teen vocalists braved the challenge of the Blind Auditions in hopes of making it to the next round of the competition.
Ella Alcantara from Cagayan de Oro stepped in and sang Alicia Keys’ “No One.” Ella started joining singing competitions in school when she was in elementary. She is not only talented in singing, but also in dancing. In fact, she is a member of their school’s hiphop dance group.
The judges seemed really interested in her performance but, unfortunately, they were not able to turn for Ella. When all the judges finally saw her after her performance, Coach Sarah Geronimo asked if she has another talent aside from singing. Ella said she loves to dance, grooving to the tune of Alex Gonzaga’s “Chambe”. All the coaches then joined Ella for their hilarious, fun take on Alex’s viral dance challenge.
Even if they did not turn for Ella, the judges still were awed by the quality of her voice and encouraged her to hone her technique, sharpen her skills, and not stop singing.
Sixteen-year old Drei Sugay then followed and exuded his irresistible charm with his rendition of the Ben&Ben song “Maybe The Night.” He shared that he began his interest in music when he learned to play the guitar. Drei is currently the lead singer and guitarist of the band 5AM and a stage actor.
Coach Apl.de.ap turned for him at the last second of his performance, which automatically makes him part of the rapper-record producer’s team. Coach Apl.de.ap noted that Drei has a lot of potential and room for growth as a singer. Other coaches said he has a great voice that was like a breath of fresh air.
Another 16-year-old, Eunice Encarnada, came all the way from Misamis Occidental with her mom for the Blind Auditions, wherein she sang “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone. Eunice said she first realized her singing talent when she participated in a church fellowship.
Coaches Sarah and Apl.de.ap were enthralled with what they heard and turned for Eunice. She would however choose Sarah as her coach. Coaches Bamboo and Lea Salonga were also in unison in praising Eunice’s talent and that she will definitely be in good hands with Coach Sarah.
Hong Kong-based Jessie Gonzales, 16, was the last to audition. She sang a breathtaking version of Moira dela Torre’s “Titibo Tibo” and for the first time on Day 9 of the Blind Auditions, all judges turned. However, Bamboo had his chances to become Eunice’s coach slip away after Sarah blocked him.
Jesse related that since she was a child, she has been passionate about singing since it runs in their blood. She is the younger sister of The Voice Teens Season 1 contestant and Team Sarah member Gia Gonzales and a cousin of Idol Philippines grand champion Zephanie Dimaranan. She revealed that she tried to enter the Blind Auditions with her sister in Season 1, but failed to do so, yet she was happy Gia made it then. She would eventually choose Apl.de.ap as her coach.
