Among the four coaches in The Voice Teens Season 2, Lea Salonga is the lone mentor who is happily married. Her husband is Robert Charles Chien, a Chinese-Japanese managing director of an entertainment software company in Los Angeles, California, whom she met while performing in “Flower Drum Song.”
Rob has truly been Lea’s “Valentine date” for 16 long years and they are still going strong. Lea said Rob has been very supportive of her career through those years.
"It's not easy being able to handle a lot of what I do and a lot of what I am," she shared to Entertainment.ABS-CBN.com.
Lea further said Rob assured her that he'd never ask her to stop performing as it is her source of inspiration and beauty.
Due to her busy schedules, she admitted that they had no plans for Valentine’s Day this year.
During the Day of Hearts, Lea had to perform in Rachelle Ann Go's homecoming concert at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Resorts World Manila.
However, Lea revealed Rob gave her a laptop as both a Valentine’s and birthday gift (her birthday is on February 22). "Better than flowers!" she said.
In their years of being together, she recalled she felt kilig on the night they got engaged.
“There were candles and flower petals. He was so involved and (the gifts were) very beautiful.” Lea remembered.
Lea and Rob have a 13-year-old daughter, Nicole Beverly Chien. In 2019, Lea appeared in the Broadway revival of “Once On This Island” and a local theater production of “Sweeney Todd.”
