As we are set to witness the naming of the Grand Winner of The Voice Teens Season 2 this weekend, let’s revisit the glory of all past champions in the reality talent show’s three competitions that marveled us for seven years!

We’ll also get to know the winning coaches for each victory that proved their sterling influence that led to their wards’ impressive triumphs.

 

2013 - Season 1 (Regular Edition)

Winner: Mitoy Yonting
Winning Coach: Lea Salonga 

 

 

Michael Yonting, also known as Mitoy, is the lead vocalist for his band, The Draybers is the first grand winner of the said singing competition. 

During his blind audition, both Sarah Geronimo and apl.de.ap expressed their regrets for not deciding to turn for him, and both Lea Salonga and Bamboo Mañalac battled over him. It was the former whom Mitoy chose to be his coach.

Coach Lea described Mitoy as a monster-singer and as a human being who has a pure heart. Despite the wide experiences as a performer here and abroad, his humility is intact.

Mitoy defeated coach Sarah’s artist, Klarisse de Guzman in the finale of The Voice of the Philippines. His two winning songs were “Anak” and his original song, “Bulag.”

 

2014 - Season 1 (Kids Edition)

Winner: Lyca Gairanod
Winning Coach: Sarah Geronimo

 

 

From collecting plastic materials, bottles, and other recyclable stuff as a means of extra income for her family, Lyca found her way to fame via the first season of The Voice Kids.

Lyca was 10 when, even with her huge voice trapped in a tiny built, she managed to defeat her tough competitors--Darren Espanto, Juan Karlos Labajo, and Darlene Vibares in the finals.

In the first round of the finale, her song was “Narito Ako,” “Call Me Maybe” in the second round, and lastly “Basang-basa sa Ulan.”

 

2011 - Season 2 (Regular Edition)

Winner: Jason Dy
Winning Coach: Sarah Geronimo

 

 

He succeeded Mitoy and his genres are pop, R&B, ballad, soul, and rock. 

Originally, he was born in Cebu, but he needed to move with his mom in Butuan after his parents separated. To support himself through college, he started working by serenading women in different places as commissioned or hired by their boyfriends or suitors. That's where his training began. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Popular Music at Philippine Women's University.

During his blind audition, he sang “Stay with Me.” Coaches Sarah, apl.de.ap, and Lea turned for him.

In the finals, his winning song was “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin,” which was a theme song of a hit film of the same title.

 

2015 - Season 2 (Kids Edition)

Winner: Elha Nympha
Winning Coach: Bamboo Manalac

 

 

Elha Mae Nympha is no stranger in the world of singing competitions. At an early age of three, she already joined a singing competition in school. She later moved to compete at a higher level at the age of seven and won. By nine years old, she auditioned for The Voice Kids, but didn't make it, and auditioned again in its second season. She finally won.

Like her predecessor Lyca, she also has a humbling story prior to winning The Voice Kids. She lived along Kamuning near EDSA. She was selling banana cue as her business for herself and her family. Her mom, Lucy, noticed that Elha has a talent for singing so she supported her dream.

She performed “Vision of Love” during her blind audition and Bamboo and she were meant for each other to win the second season of the singing competition.

“Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin” was her winning song in the finale.

 

2016 - Season 3 (Kids Edition)

Winner: Joshua Oliveros
Winning Coach: Lea Salonga

 

 

Joshua Oliveros is described by his coach, Lea Salonga as 'perfection on stage' and that he sings with his heart.  

His version of “Habang May Buhay” in his blind audition was an emotional tug, but what matters most is that--it made him convince Lea Salonga to let him be part of Team FamiLea.

Joshua was the first male grand champion in the show and marked Salonga's first win as a coach in the Kids' edition.

He sang “Salamat” as his winning piece in the Power Ballad Round in the final night, which was also the third and last stage of the contest.

 

2017 - Season 1 (Teens Edition)

Winner: Jona Soquite
Winning Coach: Sarah Geronimo

 

 

Jona is a four-chair turner when she first did her blind audition singing “Anak ng Pasig.” Coach Sarah turned for her first, Sharon followed, Lea came in third, and Bamboo was last. She was emotional seeing all four coaches turned for her. 

She eventually made it to the live shows and to the grand finals. She performed “I Believe I Can Fly” and “Better Days” in a duet with Sarah. Jona was the first-ever The Voice Teens Philippines, besting her competitors.

 

2019 - Season 4 (Kids Edition)

Winner: Vanjoss Bayaban
Winning Coach: Sarah Geronimo

 

 

Vanjoss Bayaban is the second male champion in the said edition of the competition. He is also Team Sarah’s fourth win in all editions of The Voice of the Philippines.

His blind audition song was “My Love will See You Through.” Both Lea and Sarah turned simultaneously for him. Bamboo turned last. He was 12 years old when he wowed the three coaches because of his decibel-level (F# note) voice.

Vanjoss, like his father who trained him in singing, has gone a long way from joining amateur singing contests.

His singing “You Raise Me Up” gave him 62.11% of the total votes and won him the title.
