The Voice Teens 2020: Meet the Top 16 Teen Artists of Team APL

Being among the original coaches of the whole The Voice Philippines franchise, we were all surely delighted when it was announced that Coach Apl.de.ap (or Allan Pineda Lindo) of the Grammy award-winning American hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas would be making a comeback on The Voice Teens Philippines. And now, after months of finding the 16 teen artists who would complete his line-up, he’s also ready to pit them against one another in the much-awaited Battle Rounds.

Let’s take a look back on the remarkable Blind Auditions of Team APL members here:

Matt Reyes

We all arguably found ourselves swooned by this 16-year-old balladeer’s eargasmic cover of SWV’s “Weak”, which seemingly took over the coaches and caused them to hardly speak and lose all control. Thus, it wasn’t really surprising at all when he was able to make them all turn for him and earn praises from each of them.

And in order to fully persuade him to be part of his team, Coach Apl even sought the support of his former artists Thor Dulay and Daryl Ong, which apparently helped as Matt picked him to be his mentor.

Tyson Venegas

This Filipino-Canadian charmer immediately captured Coach Apl just in the first few notes of his astounding rendition of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come”. The other coaches also turned, but he still decided to go for Team APL as he’s confident that the renowned international artist can help him to become a better singer and be more fluent in Tagalog.

Aside from that, Tyson further amazed us with how he played the piano and sang Billy Joel’s “New York State Of Mind” with blindfolds on and disclosing that he’s already exhibited his singing talent in famous live show venues, such as the Royal Carnegie Hall and Apollo Theater, and some charity events as well.

Ella Sabroso

This Filipino-Canadian charmer immediately captured Coach Apl just in the first few notes of his astounding rendition of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come”. The other coaches also turned, but he still decided to go for Team APL as he’s confident that the renowned international artist can help him to become a better singer and be more fluent in Tagalog.

Yang-Yang Aloya

Being able to feel her heart during her powerful and evocative version of Freddie Aguilar’s classic hit “Bulag, Pipi, at Bingi”, it only took Coach Apl a few seconds to turn his chair for this cheerful teen mom from Batangas, whose main source of inspiration is her beloved son. They may not be able to push their buttons for Yang-Yang, but the rest of the coaches were still all praises for her.

CZ Baylosis

As she not only displayed her singing, but her rapping skills as well in her rendition of Ebe Dancel and Abra’s “Halik Sa Hangin”, this aspiring singing cardiologist from Zamboanga City made Coach Apl turn for her just a few seconds prior to the conclusion of her performance. He assumed that he’s not going to regret doing it as he saw the potential in her.

Calvin Candelaria

Singing his ultimate idol Basil Valdez’s “Nais Ko” became this 15-year-old pride of Camarines Sur’s ticket to fulfilling his desire of making it to The Voice Teens Philippines Season 2. World-renowned singer-theater actress Lea may be the first one to turn for him, but it was still Coach Apl whom he chose as he saw him helpful in further improving his singing skills.

Isang Manlapaz

Delivering a unique and refreshing rendition of the classic OPM hit “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig,” it wasn’t surprising that this 15-year-old aspirant Muntinlupa City was a four-chair turner. It was indeed a tough task to choose which team she should be in, but Isang opted for Coach Apl, who declared that she possesses the voice that’s worthy to be heard by the world, because they are on the same genre and she firmly believed that he could help her improve her style.

Drei Sugay

With his handsome looks, it was easy for this 16-year-old charmer from San Juan City to swoon the audiences. Yet it took him a long time to please the coaches with his splendid cover of Ben&Ben’s “Maybe The Night” while playing his guitar and make at least one of them turn. And just when he’s already hopeless, Coach Apl made a shocking last minute turn after seeing the promising potential in him.

Ella Mayor

Just on the first few notes of her powerful performance of Barbra Streisand’s “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” this 13-year-old stunner from Santa Clara, California already captured Coach Apl’s attention. With Coach Lea being her possible pick, he made a quick move to block her and later on won against Coach Sarah Geronimo, who’s also vying to get Ella to her team. In the end, it was him whom she picked since he’s already able to work with performers she truly admired and she knew that he could shape her to become the performer she wanted herself to be.

Jelo Acosta

Performing Shantidope’s “Nadarang”, it was a no-brainer that this 17-year-old rapper from Quezon City would choose to be part of Team Apl. Citing the Black Eyed Peas member as his ultimate music influence ever since he was young, it was indeed a dream come true for him to be appreciated by Coach Apl and to perform opposite him as the former heeded to the latter’s request for them to have a freestyle rap battle onstage. And now, he has the chance to work with Coach Apl after choosing him over Bamboo.

Jessie Gonzales

Her mellifluous and cheery cover of Moira Dela Torre’s “Titibo-tibo” undeniably fascinated the coaches, thus, making her a four-chair turner. Even though, her older sister Gia Gonzales and her cousin Zephanie Dimaranan both chose to be part of Team Sarah, Jessie opted to change paths and picked Coach Apl to be her mentor, who happened to guide Moira as well during her stint on the reality show seven years ago.

Noielle Rodriguez

Piercing our hearts with her evocative rendition of Demi Lovato’s “Stone Cold”, this 16-year-old promising songstress from Legazpi, Albay was able to make the coaches turn for her. But in the end, she still chose to go for Coach Apl, who didn’t only praised her for her unique vocals and vowed to help her in making her compositions be heard by the world.

Hakki Patricio

This 14-year-old belter from Pangasinan didn’t have a difficult time in impressing the coaches with her cover of the iconic The Animals track “House Of The Rising Sun”, especially Coach Apl who immediately turned just in the first few seconds of her performance. Citing the similarities of their genre, and perhaps even getting swayed by his statement of taking talents in the international scene, she opted to be part of Team Apl.

Bella Micucci

Coach Apl refused to simply give up this 15-year-old Filipina-Italian beauty from Sydney, Australia as he pushed the red button midway of her performance. Although the other coaches didn’t turn their seats, he saw a potential in her and found her voice unique, as well as vowed to help her address the problems in her performance.

Josh Nubla

Serenading us with his soothing vocals while performing the Elvis Presley classic “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” Coach Apl made a last minute turn as he admitted falling in love with the young theatre thespian’s rendition. As he and the other coaches noticed a few issues in his number, Coach Apl promised to help him with those in the next stages of the competition.

Mimi Mondejar

The Fil-Am artist didn’t waste any more time in welcoming this 16-year-old aspirant from Bukidnon to the competition as he immediately turn for her upon hearing her versatile performance of Itchyworms’ “Di Na Muli”, which he described as “crunchy, sweet, at maraming dynamics”.

Who among them will go head-to-head each other in the upcoming Battle Rounds beginning this weekend? Let’s find out by not missing an episode of The Voice Teens Philippines Season 2 every Saturday and Sunday evening on the Kapamilya Channel!
