Allan Pineda Lindo, also known as Apl.de.ap, was born on November 28, 1974 in Angeles City, Pampanga. His African-American father, who was stationed at Clark Air Base, abandoned their family shortly after his birth. His Filipino mother, Cristina Pineda, raised him and his six younger siblings as a single mom. With the help of The Pearl S. Buck Foundation, an organization that assists orphaned American children, Apl was matched with a sponsor named Joe Ben Hudgens, and at the age of 14 he moved permanently to the United States to live with him.
In Los Angeles, Apl studied in John Marshall High School where he met and became good friends with William Adams, also known as Will.i.am. In 1995, they formed their own hip-hop group which is now the internationally renowned and multi-award winning music group, The Black Eyed Peas. They recently performed in the closing ceremony of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in New Clark City.
