With her cuteness and charm, it’s indeed easy for Kzhoebe Nichole Baker to capture our hearts. But there’s definitely more to her than her pretty face, for she also has impressive flair in singing, acting, and hosting, which she’s able to showcase at the onset of her The Voice Kids Season 5 stint.
The adorable 8-year-old from Sta. Rosa, Laguna related that she used to usually join singing competitions at school. She has already appeared in various television programs as well since she was only a baby and got to work with several big stars, such as actor-director Coco Martin.
In order to relay the good news to her that she was being invited to the Blind Auditions, host Bianca Gonzalez initially pranked her by making her assume that she was auditioning as a kiddie jock of ABS-CBN’s PIE Channel. Thus, Kzhoebe was really surprised when she received the invitation.
Apart from showing the world her vocal prowess, she joined the reality talent search to give her Mommy Jemelie a house since they’ve been transferring from one place to another ever since she was a baby. It happened after her parents broke up due to a malicious rumor against her mom, which resulted to her British dad kicking them out of their condominium. This compelled them to live in Baywalk for 18 months with her sibling when she was only four years old.
They went on to recall to Bianca how they would only use huge plastics to shield them from the pouring rain and how their fellow street-dwellers there were generous enough to share the little food they have to help them get through each day. Now, they’re living a comfortable life through the earnings they get from Kzhoebe TV gigs.
Just on the first few notes of her sweet rendition of Daniel Padilla and Moira Dela Torre’s “Mabagal”, the adorable girl was able to make Coach Bamboo immediately turn for her. Coach Martin Nievera followed, but she still chose to be part of Kamp Kawayan.
In her The Voice Kids DigiTV, Khzhoebe’s hosting flair was put to the test as hosts Jeremy G and Elha Nympha had her read a spiel, as if she’s the host of the online show. She then recounted how starstruck she was upon seeing The Voice of the Philippines Season 1 alumna Klarisse de Guzman, as well as how shocked she was when Coach Bamboo turned for her in the first few seconds of her performance.
She then asked the The Voice Kids Season 2 grand champion and fellow Kamp Kawayan artist Elha if it’s necessary to have a belter voice like her in order to succeed in the competition. Elha debunked it by telling her that Coach Bamboo actually prefers artists who have simple voices and originality, and those don’t replicate existing singers.
Elha added, “Ikaw, gawin mo lang ang gusto mong gawin dahil so far, so good. Ang ganda ng Blind Audition na pinakita mo and I think, si Coach Bamboo super happy siya na pinili mo siya. Gina-guarantee ko na matutulungan ka talaga ni Coach Bamboo. Basta sing with your heart every time.”
