Xai Martinez reveals how KZ is as a coach, her inspirations during Battles performance

Her mellifluous voice while singing Nina’s hit “Someday” in the Blind Auditions surely captured a lot of hearts. And Xai Martinez once again endeared us, most especially Coach KZ Tandingan, with her angelic and dulcet vocals during the Battles Round of The Voice Kids Season 5.

The “Sweet Nightingale,” together with Team Supreme mates Janicka Lorenzo and Zoe Quizol, wowed us with their astounding take on “Tadhana” by Up Dharma Down. Everyone indeed did a great job, making it difficult for the coach to choose who among them deserves to move forward to the next level of the competition. Thus, she couldn’t help but get emotional as she made her choice, explaining that she picked Xai because she felt like “she did a little bit more”.

In her The Voice Kids DigiTV reappearance, Xai shared how glad and excited she was about their rehearsals since it was her first time to be involved in a harmonization and have other people to sing along with. Besides, she also learned a lot from the Asia’s Soul Supreme, which she vows to keep in mind with until she grows old.

With regards to Coach KZ’s mentoring style, she related: “Si Coach KZ po ay sobrang bait. Siya po ay tutok na tutok po sa amin, talagang inupuan po niya at tinuruan kami nang maigi po. May dala pa po siyang laptop at in-emphasize po niya ‘yong mga dapat pa po naming gawin. Hindi po ako nailang kay Coach KZ kahit ang ganda-ganda po niya. Para po siyang Barbie po. Napakadali niyang i-approach po.”

Since it was her first time to experience harmonization, she admitted to hosts Elha Nympha and Lorraine Galvez that she initially had a hard time doing her part. Thus, she, Janicka, and Zoe persistently practiced until they’re able to perfect it. Aside from being able to create an impressive harmony with them, she’s also able to establish beautiful friendship with them.

When it comes to the remarkable lessons she got from Coach KZ, she imparted that it would be to give importance to every note in a song and to pour her heart out everytime she sings, as well as being able to tell a story and build a song up so well.

She also looked back on their Battles performance, recounting how she just focused on the performance and the message of the song, and just thought of her beloved parents, too. She even sampled the portion of the song that reminded her of them.

See how Xai will thrive in the next rounds of the competitions by not missing an episode of The Voice Kids Season 5, Saturdays and Sundays, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5.
