Just when we thought that we’re going to miss Maja Salvador after The Killer Bride concluded last January, many of us are probably delighted to see her not only in one, but two iconic teleseryes she used to star in that are currently having a re-run–The Legal Wife and Wildflower.

Seeing her portray the role of a mistress in the 2014 romance drama The Legal Wife was indeed refreshing despite it not being her first time to do a kontrabida character. As she brilliantly breathed life to the ever-popular Nicole Esquivel, the “other woman” of Jericho Rosales’ Adrian and the best friend-turned-rival of Angel Locsin’s Monica, she’s able to receive both hate and love from the avid viewers.

And years after since it wrapped up, the multi-awarded actress talked about her remarkable portrayal in the said series in an interview on Jeepney TV.

“Oo, mistress. Hindi maganda maging mistress pero babae siya na nagmahal. Kailan pa sinabing bawal magmahal? Parang gano’n ‘yong ginawa ko kay Nicole. Ando’n ‘yong kinaiinisan ka ng tao dahil mang-aagaw ka ng asawa. Pero bandang huli, naiparamdam mo sa kanila na, ‘bawal bang magmahal?’”, she started off as she discussed how she internalized her character and defended Nicole’s behavior and actions.

She and Angel indeed had a plethora of intense and notable clashes on the show that trended and even became subject of viral memes online. While we poke fun at those, little we did know that they actually had a hard time executing those in pursuit of making it completely compelling and realistic.

“Hanggang ngayon nga lumalabas pa rin ‘yon e. Iniiba-iba lang nila ‘yong nilalagay do’n sa memes. Okay lang sa akin kahit matanggal na ‘yong buhok ko basta naibigay namin ‘yong nangyayari sa totoong buhay. Kasi ‘di ba ang babae mapagtimpi ‘yan. Pero ang akin ay akin,” she stated.

Maja then conveyed how impossible it was for her to turn down those kinds of projects for those didn’t only pose as challenges for her, but those actually tell more colorful and stirring narratives.

“Yong mga roles na ‘yon, ‘di mo talaga mahihindian dahil minsan mas makulay pa ang kwento ng mga taong ‘di napapansin, ng mga taong puno ng galit. Kasi ang bida, d’yan ‘yong mamahalin ka nila, maaawa sila pero ‘yon ang pinakahahanapin mo – hanapin mo ‘yong magic do’n sa kontrabida ka pero mamahalin ka. Bakit? Dahil may puso ka, may puso ‘yong character mo. Dahil tao ka lang,” she said.
