From enthralling us through her portrayal of the vengeful lead protagonist Ivy Aguas, a.k.a. Lily Cruz, in the revenge drama Wildflower which ran for a year, Maja Salvador didn’t fail to captivate us anew in her highly-anticipated latest television gig as the titular character of ABS-CBN’s newest teleserye, The Killer Bride.
Consistently shaking up the primetime block ever since it premiered last August 12, this gothic romantic series tells the story of Maja’s character Camila Dela Torre, whose “against all odds” romance with the scion of their clan’s decade-long rival family, Vito Dela Cuesta (played by Geoff Eigenmann), would result to a slew of troubles and tragedies, including her death, and how she’s going to exact revenge against those who framed her to the murder she didn’t commit as the enraged ‘Killer Bride’.
We may have not seen her yet as the resentful ghost clad in a wedding gown, but Maja’s captivating beauty and compelling performance as a bombshell in distress already got us hooked with this new, refreshing primetime drama just on its first few episodes, particularly in the scenes included in this Friday 5 video that truly demonstrated why she’s hailed as one of the best actresses of this generation.
Apart from the eloquence she exudes everytime she throws her lines, the 30-year-old actress’ prowess to show the different emotions of her character through facial expressions and body movements is completely astounding.
But what really aroused us the most were her dramatic scenes in which she was able to impeccably convey the intense pain, sorrow, and desperation shrouding Camila – from that tear-jerking moment when she was defending her relationship with Vito to her domineering family, up to that hair-raising scene before her harrowing demise.
Among the scenes we’ve seen on its pilot week, it’s the last gap of the August 14 episode that arguably rend our hearts as the worst tragedy that would ever beset Camila ensued – the horrifying death of her newborn daughter Vida during an arson that engulfed the prison where they were staying after she got convicted of murder.
She actually tried to save her, but the monstrous and scorching flames made it difficult for her to do so. Thus, she was absolutely in distraught upon seeing what’s left of the infirmary where her ill baby was being taken care of. Left with no reason to live anymore, the anguished Camila screamed out Vida’s name before uttering with all her might the unsettling line that gave impetus to the premise of the series: “Isinusumpa ko! Kayo na pumatay sa anak ko, babalikan ko kayo! Sinisigurado ko, babalikan ko kayo! Kayo, kayong lahat. Ipapakita ko sa inyo kung anong demonyo ang tinapon n’yo sa impiyerno! Babalikan ko kayo! Babalikan ko kayo!”
As this particular scene indeed sent us shivers already, what more if Maja’s going to fill our evenings with fright as the terrifying ‘Killer Bride’? Well, you better not miss watching The Killer Bride weeknights on Primetime Bida.
