“Sarili ko muna ang sasaktan ko bago ikaw.”
If this heartfelt statement tearfully uttered by Vito (Geoff Eigenmann) in one of his rousing encounters with his former flame Camila (Maja Salvador) wasn’t enough to pierce your heart nor convince you that he still loves her, we don’t know what will.
Prior to filling our primetime viewing with horror and boggling our minds with the unexpected twists it incessantly offered in every episode, the first few episodes of The Killer Bride absolutely overwhelmed us with kilig brought by the whimsical romance of its lead characters Camila Dela Torre and Vito Dela Cuesta.
Those who have read or are familiar with the famous classic fictional love story penned by William Shakespeare titled “Romeo and Juliet,” we could see the resemblance between the two tales – a couple who still made it possible for a beautiful affair to grow between them amid the stiff rivalry of their families. And just like what happened to the two iconic characters, Camila and Vito’s relationship also had a tragic, heartbreaking end.
Even though that’s the case, we all knew how Vito has remained in love with her after all those years that she was presumed dead and despite being pushed away by her every time he tried to talk to her when she was still in prison and from the moment she revealed herself again.
In this Kapamilya Toplist, we could revisit the harrowing journey Vito had to go through after losing Camila when it was assumed that she’s one of the casualties of the fire that engulfed the correctional facility where she and their daughter Vida used to stay, which proved that he never stopped loving the only woman he loved with all his heart.
Even though Camila firmly believed that he had turned his back at her just like what everyone in Las Espadas did, he kept on reaffirming her that he’s still at her side. She might have refused to believe it, but he didn’t grow tired in proving it by defending her from naysayers and even to Camila herself when she stealthily slow danced with him in an event and told him how lucky he’d become for not being married to her.
Aside from the fact that he never stopped loving and thinking of her in spite of having an understanding wife in Tessa (Loren Burgos) and a beautiful daughter in Luna (Alexa Ilacad), Vito also didn’t put a halt in uncovering the truth about and pursuing justice for her case and her death by doing his own investigation. As we all know, he even dedicated a secret room inside their residence where he kept all the mementos of Camila and their relationship, as well as the evidences and information he gleaned through the years. Besides, we also saw him keep on coming back to the church ruins that used to be their secret special place.
Avid viewers probably could not forget, too, those heart-rending moments when he pointed the gun Camila aimed at him onto his forehead and urged her to shoot him and when he meekly absorbed her rage and then expressed how he truly regretted all his shortcomings to her and Vida and how he pined to make up for those. He even tried to offer his help for the fulfillment of her and Emma’s mission, only to be get declined and pushed away initially.
In the long run, Camila realized Vito’s sincerity and once again allowed him to enter her life by being an ally in hindering their nemeses in their wicked acts and in seeking the truth and justice, which marked their brand-new start. Since then, we could notice how he seemingly found it hard to take his gaze off of her, just like what he did when they were still together. In one of their hearty conversations, he told her how happy he was to know that she’s still alive and that she came back in Las Espadas.
It might be already impossible for them to rekindle the flame they used to have, but they, as well as us, were apparently satisfied knowing that they loved and a part of them will always love each other.
Are we going to see more Vito-Camila moments in the remaining episodes of The Killer Bride although she’s already dead? Well, that’s for us to find out so you better not miss an episode!
