Aside from his palpable handsome looks, Jake Cuenca has also successfully won our hearts with his astounding acting chops that catapulted him into becoming one of the most bankable actors and sought-after leading men of his generation.
We’ve already seen him portray various roles in the past series that he starred in, which truly showcased his versatility as an actor. And now, we’re going to see him in a different light anew as he takes on the role John Eros Del Rio in the forthcoming primetime drama The Iron Heart.
But prior to that, let’s look back first on his remarkable acting stints over the years in this episode of Kapamilya Spotlight!
After working in another network for three years, Jake transferred to ABS-CBN in 2006 and had his Kapamilya debut via his portrayal of Napoleon, the main antagonist and leader of the evil supernatural beings dubbed Dalaketnons in Komiks Presents Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko.
His freshman year had been hectic for he was bestowed strings of television projects that absolutely showcased his versatility and brilliance as an actor.
The Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson-starrer Sana Maulit Muli was his first regular teleserye appearance, wherein he was known as the persistent and derisive Brandon, the brother of Travis (Gerald) and the love interest of Bianca (Neri Naig). It was succeeded by his supporting stint in the TV adaptation of the comic book series Lastikman, top-billed by Vhong Navarro.
He reprised his role as Napoleon in the second book of Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko – Komiks Presents Pedro Penduko at Ang Mga Engkanto in 2007. And on that same year, his comedic chops were put to the test as well as he joined the defunct sitcom That’s My Doc.
In 2008, he snagged his first-ever lead role through the action drama Palos as he played the titular character named Giancarlo Caranzo, the top agent of the secret agency called “Neptune”.
The following year, he figured in a love triangle with the KimErald loveteam again in their reunion project Tayong Dalawa, then starred in two books of Precious Hearts Romances Presents entitled “Bud Brothers” and “My Cheating Heart,” to which he was paired with Cristine Reyes.
Jake then got us smitten with his charm and admirable personality as Dr. Alejandro Cardenas in the Filipino adaptation of the Mexicanovela Rubi, and with his flair in action as the titular character in Agimat Ang Mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla: Elias Paniki, which were both shown in 2010.
In 2011, he showcased his impeccable performance as an antagonist once more with his portrayal of the treacherous Edward Fuentabella in the incarnation of the Korean drama Green Rose. He then found himself entangled in complicated love affairs through his characters Paul Raymundo in Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo and Rafael de Guzman in Kahit Puso’y Masugatan, both aired in 2012.
A year after, he became a knight-in-shining armor in the remake of the well-loved 1992 Mexican telenovela Maria Mercedes, as he played the dashing and affluent Luis Sancuevas who fell in love with the lowly yet gumptious titular character portrayed by Jessy Mendiola.
It was succeeded by his impressive stints in the 2014 romantic drama Ikaw Lamang as the main antagonist Franco Hidalgo, and in the remake of the Colombian series Pasion de Amor in 2015 as the protective and doting brother Juan Samonte who sought revenge for the tragic death of their sister.
The 33-year-old actor got reunited with Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson on-screen again as they starred in the daytime series Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin in 2017, in which he characterized another cruel anti-hero through Carlos dela Vega.
In 2018, he became a part of the primetime series The Blood Sisters as he portrayed the notorious criminal named Rocco Fernandez. He then top-billed Precious Hearts Romances Presents Los Bastardos as the eldest “bastardo” or child Isagani Esperanza, also known as Roman Cardinal Jr.
The following year, he got reunited with Shaina Magdayao as her on-screen husband Jordan Sebastian in the 2019 weekly series The Haunted.
Apart from these noteworthy appearances, he had special participations as well in Guns and Roses (2011), 100 Days to Heaven (2011), and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano (2016), and Walang Hanggang Paalam (2020). And in 2021, he once again impressed us with his portrayal of Troy Ramones in Viral Scandal. He also captivated us with his performances in the Kapamilya programs Love Spell, Your Song, Maalaala Mo Kaya, Komiks, Wansapanataym, and Ipaglaban Mo.
