Apart from the heart-thumping action and suspense, one more thing about The Iron Heart that keeps us entertained is Apollo (Richard Gutierrez) and Poseidon (Pepe Herrera)’s duo. Poseidon’s side quips balance out Apollo’s more serious nature. Their every scene together is fused with chemistry. They are absolutely perfect as the boss-sidekick tandem that it feels impossible to have one without the other.

Just on their first meeting, we knew they are going to hit it off. Poseidon was thrilled to be on a power trip but ended up feeling so undersized when Apollo stood up displaying his full physique. Intimidated, Poseidon cracked a joke about him wanting to fix Apollo’s hair and said they’d be roommates from then on.
Their back and forth are often colored with comedy as if Poseidon is pulling the enigmatic Apollo out of his shell. While loading the shipments, for instance, Poseidon said he can climb up the ladder if only the bosses see his hidden strength. Then, Apollo reacts that he had already discovered Poseidon’s “tinatagong lakas” just by using his sense of smell.
In the next scene, Poseidon mentioned that he has a half-German girlfriend, to which their teammate comments, “half-Shepherd?” Noticing Apollo’s silence about the topic, Poseidon concludes that Apollo’s girlfriend is unaware of his involvement in Tatsulok. Aren’t they like BFFs who can read each other’s thoughts?
Also one of our top picks is Apollo participating in a cage fight as Janus (Baron Geisler) ordered. Poseidon’s advice was a total laugh trip. He acted like Apollo’s trainer and even gave him a reflexology hand massage. What’s so entertaining about the pre-fight scene is Poseidon’s funny ‘hirit’ that complements Apollo’s serious reaction so well.
Their first transaction with a drug lord put their teamwork to the test. They went up against an onslaught of bullets and combats. The chase caused them to be trapped inside a warehouse with a locked gate. But Apollo managed to unshackle the chains with just his hand, much to Poseidon’s awe. “Paano mo nagawa ‘yun, Tisoy? Ikaw ba si Thor?”
The successful transaction proved Apollo’s fight and leadership skills and Poseidon was one proud sidekick. The latter urged their teammates to start calling Apollo “Boss Tisoy,” saying “Janus is out, Tisoy is in.” The next scene likewise featured a well-crafted banter when Poseidon found out Apollo was invited by Boss John (Jeric Raval) to a party with the biggest mafia leaders. He said “hindi pwede dugyutan du’n” and jestingly offered Apollo his denim blazer.
The said party ended with everyone believing that Priam (Albert Martinez) died in a helicopter exploding mid-air. At the headquarters, Poseidon lighted some candles, trying to talk to Priam’s soul. Apollo’s comment got him scared, so he instead wished for the culprit’s demise, clueless that it was Apollo who planted the bomb on Priam’s helicopter.
The two have gotten so close that Poseidon already trusts Apollo with his life. In the next scene, he called Apollo, who was then on a short break, to help him hatch a plan for the next transaction he’s tasked with. Poseidon begged Apollo to come with him, as if they are a two-headed creature that one cannot function without the other.
Apollo then made sure his buddy doesn’t end up dead. He joined the operation even when he doesn’t have to and faced Eros (Jake Cuenca) in a deadly hand-to-hand combat. Apollo dominated the fight, however, Eros, with Nyx (Sofia Andrea)’s help, was able to outsmart the Tatsulok.
